Cretinin was an infamous place, filled with science and madmen; with pain and with creation. It was against everything that Elejen had dictated, but the humans had manufactured a new species here. The Humani. Ravenous, vicious creatures with a bloodlust like no other. However, they were infused with human intelligence, and that made them a little less hostile and a little more civilized. Had Humanis just been reckless animals with the ability to stand and use humanoid things like swords, then there wouldn't be any species left standing, save for maybe the Aeries.
Elejen had decided to take a brisk walk through the abandoned bit of country - not because she hadn't seen it before, but because she liked the smell of radiation and suffering. Call it strange, but Elejen was always seeing births and joyous occasions, so she needed something to battle those. Cretinin was the perfect place. There were even still some feral Humanis who lingered around, peering at her through trees and bushes. She could see their bright eyes and pearly-white teeth. They were unaware of who she was, so Elejen didn't take any offense to it.
The goddess strolled lightly through the plains and dirt of Cretinin, letting her bare feet cause life to spring up where she stepped. A sapling here or a flower there, it was all a blessing to Esune, but Elejen quite disliked it. As she treaded upon the ground, her eyes remained elsewhere. They were watching the humanis hiding in the bushes as they moved about. Her ears could plainly hear their warnings, their hisses and growls. However, not a single one would lash out at her. Elejen knew their caveats only meant they were frightened, and she was undaunted by their razor claws and knife-life fangs. If Death himself stared her in the face, she wouldn't be intimidated - oh, wait, she saw Death every day; every waking moment of her life was filled with Death.
Elejen didn't expect anyone to be out here save for the humani. Their warnings were quickly extinguished as she ported herself upon a tall rock, sitting, pretty much, in the middle of nowhere. She sat upon it, letting her legs dangle fearlessly over the edge. She placed her hands behind her, propping her torso up. Her head fell back a bit so that she could look up at the sky. Her eyes closed and her nostrils allowed the distinct smell of Cretinin creep in. She hadn't a care in the world. And why should she? She created this world and the little creatures that ran around on it.
However, those little creatures had really made her angry, especially of late. They had somehow managed to get their impure hands upon Vacuus and slay him. Elejen was not pleased with this behavior, and to punish them, she had given the world droughts and famines. Hopefully a few good people would grow tired of the disasters and find the "god hunters" and kill them. Then, Elejen could return Esune back to normal.
Cretinin was lucky, then, that she had come across it. Where she had stepped, there was small trees and budding flowers. The few signs of life that led her creations to believe that she was still around and watching over them.
Right now, though, she wanted to watch over herself. She just wanted to rest, even though she wasn't supposed to. Rest for Elejen would be a few years, possibly a few hundred years. Esune would be a wasteland if she slept, which was why she was so exhausted.
She didn't want sleep to get the best of her, but her will was weak on Esune and she began to let her mind rest. Soon, her body followed, curling up on the rock like a feline. Her hands laid over her eyes to block out the sun and in almost an instant, she was fast asleep. Elejen was out cold, unmoving and almost lifeless. Her slumber was trance-like, without dreams or actions. She simply looked like a corpse or statue. Even her skin gave off the hint of being dead, as it had grown pale and without the tan color that she normally had. Elejen had gone into more of a hibernation than sleep.

It was a bad idea, a horrible idea, an awful idea really, leaving her home to go out to the country, but the city only yielded so much to one as innately curious as Eden and she knew that so much lived beyond its walls. It had only taking a bit of bribing to convince one of the neighboring boys to take her beyond the city walls and escort her around. It didn’t hurt that, as observant as Eden was, she had quite a few things she could hold over this particular young man’s head, like the fact that, against his parents will, he was sneaking off with a girl who was a good five years younger than him for a quick roll in the hay every other night. The only reason that Eden knew was because she had the misfortune to walk in on them when she was sent looking for his parents. He had made her swear never to tell a soul, which simply meant that every time Eden needed something from him, she would remind him of that particular incident and there was little he could do to protest.
This time, in particular, he had expressed reserves and almost hadn’t agreed to bring her out, simply on the basis of her being frail. He had almost allowed her to run to his parents and inform them of his indiscretions, but at the last second, his courage and sense of morality failed him and he gave in to Eden’s wishes. In his defense, the young woman was ridiculously strong willed and it was difficult to say no to her, even when she didn’t have something to hold over your head. He was just exceedingly unlucky that she had caught him in a compromising position. Thus, this morning, they had started their journey towards Cretinin. At times, along the way, the boy was forced to take Eden atop his back, when she became tired. They stopped a few nights, sleeping beneath the stars and were lucky to not have been approached by anything of a sinister nature. Eden had heard of the humani, the freaks of nature, but was not frightened. The girl was intrigued by them and had an unhealthy desire to see one in person. It seemed as though miss Eden had a death wish, but the fact was that, as far as she was concerned, death was on her side. She had little to worry about.
This morning, when Eden had woken up, she had snuck away from her escort to go exploring on her own. While out, she was met with a curious phenomenon- the sprouting of small trees and flowers in what appeared to be a trail. Brow scrunched, she began following the small plants, her curiosity, once again, getting the better of her. She didn’t once think that there was a chance that something bad could be at the end of something so wonderful. Every now and again, she would pluck an especially pretty flower from the trail, tucking it into her dress to press and bring home to her mother.
The flowers appeared to stop at a rock, and looking up, Eden let out a sharp scream, seeing the unmoving form atop it. Was it…dead? It was in a strange state if it was not. Unmoving, it didn’t even appear to have that slight flush across its skin that most of the living had. She shook her head. ‘It’. Why not refer to it as a female? As it was obviously as much, though the nature of the female, Eden could not be sure. Her first instinct was to call the woman human, but she felt as though that would be a mistake. Humans did not rest the way she did, curled up on a rock, completely still. Eden ventured just a little bit closer, reaching out a hand, then thinking better of it. Whatever this woman was, she thought it might be best not to touch. She moved closer, ”Are you all right?” she asked tentatively, not even entirely sure that the corpselike figure could hear.

Sleep. Sweet, delicious sleep. Elejen had forgotten how great it felt to slumber. The darkness that filled her eyelids and the lack of visual stimulation really calmed her so much so that, despite her lifelessness, she breathed a huge sigh, rattling her whole body. For just a moment, the color returned to her cheeks, but as she became unmoving again, it swiftly drained from her.
Gods didn't dream. They never did, unless Aurora interfered with their minds, but Aurora knew damn well not to touch Elejen. Elejen was basically the queen of the gods, if you wanted to give her a title. The minor gods stayed their distance from her, especially during this period of time because of her anger toward the inhabitants of Esune.
Perhaps it was because they didn't dream that Elejen didn't stir. Or perhaps it was because of her inability to wake herself up. Once she was asleep, she, internally, could not restore her consciousness. There had to be an outside force, but what factor would dare awaken a Goddess? The only person Elejen knew of that would even venture a thought as to waking her would be Desino, her brother. He just loved to bring her wrath upon him.
Despite her assurance that no one would bother her or even find her on the rock, outside of Cretinin, there was someone's voice tickling her ears. Elejen dismissed it for a moment, simply addressing it as the wind. However, her mind began to toss the voice around in her head and was soon able to make out words in the so-called "wind."
Slowly, Elejen's hand moved out of her face and she placed it on the rock in front of her. She laid there, unmoving for several moments. Nothing, not even her chest inhaling and exhaling, was visible. Then, suddenly, her eyes bolted open, examining the culprit before her with such hatred that it would make a humani cringe. Elejen's eyes scrupulously searched the girl. Until she realized who this girl was. Eden. Her brother took a fancy to this girl. She could see it in his eyes. Elejen's eyes narrowed softly at her, almost welcoming.
"I'm fine, love," Elejen returned as she sat up on the rock. "Though, you seem to like to flirt with death, don't you? I can smell it." She leaned over and took a whiff of the girl, then turned her nose up in disgust. Her eyes looked up at the sky for a moment before returning to Eden, peering at her from the corner of her socket. "If you want Death so much, I can give you just that. You already have two strikes, anyways. One for waking me up and two for frolicking around with my brother. Might as well kill you off."
Elejen sighed sorrowfully, as if she didn't want to hurt the girl, but she slid off the rock like it was her duty to do so. Her feet hit the ground softly, and around her feet, a ring of flowers peeked through the dirt, clinging to Elejen's skin. Despite the beautiful flora, Elejen's demeanor was fiery and spiteful. Her arms were akimbo, her eyes were glossy with hate, and her lips were pursed tightly. Though Elejen couldn't directly kill anyone on Esune, she would make it seem like she could. If she had said she could brew up a storm and strike lightning at the girl, it wouldn't seem as dire of a threat.
"I'll give you a fair warning, Eden," Elejen murmured coarsely, moving closer to her, "Stay away from my brother and you won't run into any 'accidents' in your life." With that, Elejen back stepped away from Eden, but gave her a stern, menacing glare. But with the flick of a switch, her visage was suddenly pleasant, with a warm smile and welcoming eyes. "You see, my brother is very dear to me. He's the only thing I've got and I can't have nasty girls seducing him. He's fairly naive and sensitive, so if anything were to get close to him, like, say, a rat named Eden, then I'd have to snuff that rat's flickering flame out."

The moment Elejen opened her eyes was the first time Eden wished she wasn’t nearly as curious as she was. All she wanted to do at the moment was melt into the earth so the goddess couldn’t see her- the look she gave her was pure disgust, an emotion that Eden was not often at the receiving end of. The worst that she had ever dealt with from people was a degree of pity, but loathing? It was not something that she knew how to handle. It wasn’t as though she was the sort who required acceptance and love from the entire population, but to be disliked so quickly was quite a shock to the girl. She visibly retreated, taking a small step back as she stared at the goddess reproachfully, too frightened to simply turn around and run away. Her eyes hardening, Eden set her chin, seeming to take a change of heart. While she was as frightened as a rabbit, she wasn’t going to let it show. She stood as calmly as she could, the only evidence of her anxiety being the nervous flutter of her heart and the mild twitch away from Elejen as the goddess leaned forward to sniff at her.
Confusion flickered across her face at the goddess’s little speech…flirt…with death? It took a moment for it to register exactly what Elejen spoke of. Desino. She felt her heart fall. Under normal circumstances, he would be the one bailing her out of whatever horrible situation that she managed to find herself in, but in this particular case, she doubted that, even if he should find her by some miracle, there was much that he was able to do. How did a god deal with another goddess? Eden wasn’t entirely sure and she certainly wasn’t eager to find out. She just wanted to leave, return to the city with her escort. While she was a curious girl, trouble was not something that she was looking for. ”Kill me off,” Eden replied, nearly stumbling over the words. This was all in jest, right? Some type of cruel joke or game that the gods played on mortals such as herself. It was a game that she didn’t want to participate in at all. She just wanted to go home and rest.
It was surprising that such a degree of hatred seemed to emanate from a goddess who purportedly helped create life. Elejen was quite frightening, more terrifying than anything that Eden had ever dealt with, and for one who walked a fine line between life and death on a regular basis, that was quite the claim. Eden was used to the idea that she couldn’t strain herself, that her heart might give out, that her lungs wouldn’t be able to handle it. She hadn’t expected the greatest threat to her well-being, today, to be a goddess who created flowers and trees and other pretty things. This loathing seemed contradictory to, well, everything that had to do with Elejen.
Eden’s own eyes narrowed as fear turned into rare anger. ‘Nasty’? ‘Seducing’? She had done neither to Desino! She wasn’t even sure that they had established the nature of their relationship at this point- whether it was protector and child or something more. To have Elejen come in and try to push Eden away, it was downright cruel. ”I think your brother is fully capable of making his own decisions,” Eden replied, jutting her chin out stubbornly, ”He’s the one who comes to me- I couldn’t find Desino if I tried to. However, I will NOT agree to stay away from him.” She paused, the exertion of her temper enough that she had to take a few deep breaths in order to continue. ”The minute he comes to me and says that he doesn’t want to see me anymore, I’ll avoid him, but until then, you have no right to interfere,” Eden finished. Maybe it a dangerous way to speak to a goddess, not to mention the fact that, as of now, there really wasn’t anything remotely resembling seduction or whatever Elejen thought. Everything that had gone on between them was fairly innocent, so why Eden felt the need to defend herself, she wasn’t sure. Maybe because a part of her wished that there was a reason for the accusation? She wasn’t sure.

Desino was everything to Elejen, whether he knew that or not. He was there when she made Esune, and he would always be there. And no dirty human was going to change that. If Desino wasn't clever enough to see how underhanded humans were, then Elejen could see for him. Females, especially, were conniving. What, with their pretty hair and fragrant smells. Men were so easily tempted.
It seemed that, over the years, her creations had gotten fearless, even enough so to kill a god. Well, she had never been afraid of her creations, nor would she ever be. Elejen could, as sure as Hell, strike some trepidation into the hearts of humans and Narro alike if she had to. She wasn't just the creator of life; no, she could make natural disasters, as well. Her catastrophes killed more people than disease or old age. Elejen would love to see this girl escape a tornado or a fire storm.
But Elejen was going to humor her. If she wanted to be courageous, then let her. However, Elejen wasn't going to take her seriously. If she wanted to lash out simply on Desino's behalf, then Elejen had no problem with that. Devoting her life to Desino seemed good to her, but in Eden's case, it was for the wrong reasons. She was a snake just waiting to strike at her brother at just the right moment. And Elejen wouldn't allow it!
"Desino comes to you, does he? Did you sell your soul to him yet? I'll bet he feeds on your life force when you're unconscious. Do you feel tired or uneasy in the morning?" Elejen bombarded Eden with all kinds of questions, hoping to throw her off guard. "You know he only wants one thing: your soul. He eats - no, devours - them with the greatest satisfaction. He makes his way into your heart like a parasite, and then when you're weak and unknowing, he rips the soul right out of your body! Then you're left in limbo while your consciousness is slurped up by the handsome but deadly Desino." If that wasn't enough to scare Eden off, then the girl must be a freak. Elejen didn't believe any of those things herself, but she personally knew the god of death. He was quite the opposite of what she described. He "cared" for the dead, and sometimes, he seemed fonder of them than his own sister, which, of course, made her angry. For someone who was so devoted, he didn't appear so devoted to her.
The goddess stepped closer to Eden now, looking her straight in the eye. "And, no, he isn't capable of making his own decisions, because he's a monster that acts purely on instinct. I'm here to protect him," she growled distastefully. "And if you so much as even think about him, I'll rip the thought right out of your head and feed it to my spirit!"

Eden wasn’t entirely sure how she had become the target of Elejen’s wrath- she had woken her up, true, but it had been out of concern, not out of some need to be annoying or, well, whatever it was Elejen thought she was doing. And as for the situation with her brother…there wasn’t even really a situation as far as Eden was concerned. He never seemed to look at her as more than his charge, the girl that he had to protect from the world because she was too frail to make it by herself. She was far from conniving- she was the most guileless girl in the world. She didn’t have a seductive, deceptive bone in her body. She was, on most counts, as innocent as any child, not to mention more stifled than any child. She had both her parents AND Desino looking out for her, which meant that going five feet away from her house was a hardship. Coming all the way out here, well, she was beginning to think all the trouble she went to wasn’t worth it.
A snake waiting to strike couldn’t be further from the truth when it came to Eden. She had no desire to ensnare Desino- true, she did care about him, but she didn’t even have it in her to say as much. Whatever Elejen was worried about as far as Desino was concerned had not come to fruition as of yet. Maybe it was preventative measures, but Eden certainly didn’t appreciate it, as evidenced by the sharp set of her brow and the mild flashing of her eyes. She wasn’t naturally confrontational, but there was something about Elejen that rubbed her the wrong way. Being told what to do was nothing new- her parents, even Desino did as much. Telling her who she could associate with, who she was allowed to think about? That was a step in the wrong direction.
That didn’t mean that Eden didn’t falter at Elejen’s next accusation, this time directed at Desino. Reproach crept into her eyes as she thought about it. Tired? Yes, she regularly felt tired in the morning, but she was fatigued most of the time. Uneasy…well, she wouldn’t describe anything she felt as unease. She tried to remain rational, reminding herself that it appeared that Elejen was trying to scare her away, that it couldn’t possibly be true. Then again, weren’t goddesses supposed to operate under some moral standards? She wasn’t sure they were able to lie…conflict crept across her face as she bit down on her lower lip until it went white, her brows drawing close together in thought. ”You’re….lying,” she said quietly, but not with the conviction she would have liked to have said it with. ”Desino wouldn’t do that…he just wouldn’t,” she replied, shaking her head vehemently. ”Not to me, not to anybody.” She didn’t think he had it in him…but if Elejen said that he did…maybe she was right? Maybe she wasn’t lying? Now Eden wasn’t sure. She didn’t want to simply believe whatever the goddess said at risk of completely alienating Desino- he had become necessary to her well being.
”I think you ought to question whether it’s you or Desino who’s the monster when you’re the one standing here trying to frighten me away from him…” Eden replied softly. TAG Elejen WORDS 558 NOTES <3 LYRICS sweet child of mine, guns 'n' roses

Elejen could strike fear into the heart of this human if she had to. She would resort to force. If this girl threatened Desino's sanity, then Elejen would have her head staked in her temple, to remind her followers just what she could do. No one messed with her brother, because she was the only one allowed to do that.
But this girl was challenging Elejen. She was trying to see how far she could get before Elejen snapped. Elejen was known for her benevolence, but it couldn't be farther from the truth. When it came to people she disliked, she had no patience whatsoever, and this human before her was really testing that virtue.
"What did you say, dear?" Elejen inquired venomously, moving toward Eden. She cupped her ear with her hand to further her question. "I didn't hear what you said..." she started, approaching her slowly, "but if I had... I would have to say that you are very, very foolish to call the goddess of life a monster." Suddenly, she stopped. Her face became void of all emotion and her stance was statuesque. Even her eyes were glossed over, like those of a corpse.
"But, you know, I can show you the face of a monster." With that, Elejen began to morph herself into a fearsome creature. Her spine hunched over so far that she had to get on her hands. Her hands turned into paws with giant, unkept claws that branched out, splintered and jagged. Elejen's skin became covered with fur, a blood-stained black pelt with dense, coarse hairs, prickly to the touch. Her coat fed into a large, matted mane around her neck that was just as pitch as her fur. The mane curled in a vile shape and framed her feline head in such a way that mostly only her demonic red eyes flashed. In addition, her white whiskers really outlined her yellowed fangs that jutted from her upper jaw, worn from use and colored from blood. If that wasn't menacing enough, every vertebrae in her spine was clearly visible through her fur along with the bones in her long tail.
Elejen shook herself, clearly uneasy in her current body. Once she gained her footing as a quadriped, she turned to Eden, a toothy smirk on her feline face. "Is this monstrous enough for you? Will this scare you away from my brother?" she roared, obviously vexed. She moved toward Eden, her head low along with her tail. She curled back her lip to expose her calloused incisors and flattened her ears to show displeasure. The fragmented claws on her feet uprooted grass and dirt on their path to Eden, causing a wicked ripping sound to reverberate.
The big cat stopped at Eden's feet, staring hungrily at her shins, though the feline came up to about Eden's midsection just at the shoulders. Elejen lifted her head up to meet Eden's eyes with her own piercing ones. Then she lifted up one of her four giant paws and swiped at Eden, though without much effort. Elejen wasn't directly capable of hurting people, but this girl didn't have to know that. And if she was smart enough, she would have moved anyways.
Elejen opened her gaping maw, allowing an oppressed growl to emit from her vocal cords. "If you don't stay away from Desino, I'll, personally, come in your sleep and eat your thoughts. Then when you have no consciousness, I'll let you wander around Esune, mindless and blind to the world, but... you can still feel it. It would be like eternal torture. Do you really want that, dear? All I'm asking is for you to leave my beloved brother alone, as he's all that's keeping this world alive," she explained quite sternly. Then, without ado, she returned to her normal form. She got off of her hands and knees, and, while standing up to face Eden, brushed herself off. That was quite a transformation.
