Many people don’t like the cold but personally I am quite fond of it. I guess that is because I was raised in the chills, so anywhere too warm never seems like home to me. Whether or not I’ve been raised there I feel as if I’ve been all over the world by now.
My father was a captain, my mother dead, as a result he raised me. He was a man of the sea, carrying loads of cargo into and out of Sivum. Naturally, since he could not leave me alone at home, he took me with him. I am no stranger to the coast and the areas nearby and around it. I spent as much time sailing and venturing into those regions as I did in Sivum.
I never got seasick, and I rarely complained. I was far too fascinated with the changing landscapes and the color change in the waters from steely grey to jewel tones of greenish blue. It never got old back then, it never got boring no matter how many times I saw it, but it is human nature to yearn for more, no matter how much we are given.
I began to request leave from the ship to go visit the inner lands along with other travelers. He denied me until I was about 16, when he let me travel with an associate to Revko. I swear my eye fell just about out of my head. It was so busy, like nothing I had ever seen before in my life. It was amazing. I promised myself I’d return at some point.
For the next four years after that I traveled inland more and more with various traders and merchants. I was familiar with how the routes work soon enough. I was always blessed with an excellent memory, though it isn’t without its flaws. However bad news came to me from the north. My father had died. I headed back to Sivum to settle his affects.
I realized then how I could make my living. I took over the ship with the help of a cousin of mine. For the past five years we have co-owned and captained the vessel, carrying travelers and cargo alike. I occasionally venture in as a guide to major cities from the coast. Still this life has begun to wear on me. I feel limited to the same routes now that I have traveled them a thousand times. The world seems far more closed to me than it used to, nothing fresh. I just need a new opportunity.
