It was terribly boring sitting up on her little throne. Who was going to entertain her? Desino? He was no better than watching the grass grow. There was nothing to do in her home, except perhaps create a storm or a natural disaster, then Desino would have to do some work. But Elejen wasn't that cruel. She didn't wreak havoc on the mortals for the Hell of it. At least, not with her powers. She did enjoy toying with them on their own level.
It had been awhile since she had descended to Esune. Maybe it was time to visit them again. After all, there was nothing like first hand experience.
Elejen didn't particularly care to just pop into some random place. No, she had a special town in mind. Revko, city of the humans. The humans were Elejen's favorite race to mess around with. They had no powers, yet they were the dominant race. It was crazy to ever give them intelligence, because they rarely used it. Only in dire situations did they show their brilliance.
In the city of Revko, there was one person that she cared about and that was Jagger. Elejen was never good with showing love, but she did have a soft spot for her son. However, she was the goddess of Esune, so it would seem weak and spineless to be compassionate. Not to mention, what was the point of a child if you couldn't have fun with them?
Elejen took a long look at Revko before she manifested there, in the form of a small, harmless kitten. She paced around the city for awhile, taking in all of the sights and sounds while she could. It was amazing what humans could do without wings or such. Her tiny paws stopped as she peered up at the large castle before her. Her feet had carried her here for some reason, but she couldn't recall why. She shrugged her feline shoulders, turned, and then bolted off down the alley way to search for Jagger. But not without creating a bit of mischief first.
Elejen took a few shortcuts to get to the merchants' stands. The scents were just incredible; there was fruit and vegetables and meats, and it was all so pleasing to her senses. Then there were the luxurious, glimmering pieces of jewelry and clothing. Her feeling of greed was only present on Esune, but she welcomed it fondly. She crept underneath the feet of the townspeople to stealth herself from the merchants; that way, she could take their wares from right under their noses.
The kitten snaked her way through the crowd, firstly, to the cart with the cured meats. Her mouth salivated simply from smelling them. Her paws led her to the merchant, which seemed to take no notice of her. That was great, because he was going to in a few moments. Elejen reared back her head, drew back her ears, fluffed her fur and then struck at the merchant's leg with as much force as a kitten could put behind a swipe. Once he had turned to see what had scratched him, she clambered up onto the stand and grabbed a large hunk of meat in her mouth. She turned to him with the meat in her mouth and gave him a smile that was human-like, which must have dazed him, as he didn't tail her until he regained his composure. He shouted after her, which caused some ruckus betwixt the crowd and they shifted out of the way for the merchant.
Elejen continued to run, but felt it was futile. In broad daylight and in clear view of the crowd, she sprouted a set of wings and perched herself atop a wall post. The people grew quiet and the merchant stopped chasing her then. She settled down, gnawing silently on her meat with an air of superiority. While she did so, her eyes scanned over the city that was visible for Jagger. Perhaps he was avoiding her. There had to be some way that he hadn't heard all of that commotion. But that was fine. She would find him. And if all else failed, she could use her goddess powers to locate him. Fortunately for him, Elejen wasn't that hellbent on finding him. She wanted to bother him, not track him down.
Once she had snacked long enough on her prime cut, she leaped smoothly off of the post and landed on the ground like a feather. With an itching that Jagger was somewhere nearby, Elejen started off in the direction of her instinctual hunch. What she couldn't see, she could smell and hear. And what seemed to be like his scent was only where he had been. It was a stale scent, too, so he had been there a day or two before. Perhaps all of this was to no avail. Elejen wouldn't find him in this dirty town.
She turned on her heel and began to pad down the street, saddened and disappointed. Her tail dragged on the ground like a limp piece of string. Her ears flattened to her cranium, with the ends drooping, similar to a basset hound. Elejen's paws barely managed to lift themselves up off the ground to take a step forward. However, she somehow succeeded in finding the steps of the castle. Elejen curled up on the bottom step, nestling her muzzle between her paws and peering out at the people with yellow eyes in hopes that she might find Jagger.

The air always felt so hot and musty whenever he went hurrying through the city of the humans. Mostly the marketing areas of the city though. All of the bodies sliding past one another and the constant bargaining and greetings that were flying by his ears made him feel somewhat claustrophobic as he was fonder of a quiet forest setting. But after these past few years of venturing into the city, he had eventually adjusted and managed to make do without looking completely wide eyed and annoyed about all of the people colliding into his shoulders while yelling half way across the city. He wasn’t completely fine with that but he could deal with it to get what he needed and where he needed to be. Had there not been anything for him anywhere around here then he would get a little annoyed and have to speak his mind to these insane dealers and citizens who thought yelling appropriate for every setting.
Jagger made his way through the market, without too many problems. He had a broad pair of shoulders and stood high, most humans looking at his chin or lips when they faced him. It made him stand out in a crowd, but thankfully you had your human freaks too who had to parade through town and advertise their strange features (Jagger wasn’t really much of a fan of highlighting strange features). His mind was set on supplies and when his mind was set on something he did it without much complaint or thought of anything horrible going on around him. He just did it and zoned into the things he was currently after. At the moment that was some new boots as the sole in his own were giving out. Usually he could make his own things but there was nothing like getting it done by someone who did it for a living. Their craftsmanship was always much better than his own and lasted far longer. So it was worth the money in the end.
While he made his way through the crowd of people he heard some annoyingly loud, obnoxious yelling coming from the other end of the square. His brows rose up as he peered over the heads of the others, still getting up on his toes despite his height. When he found that it was merchant on the run he automatically decided that it was probably a thief or some beggar starving in the streets that he was currently after. But as the people stepped out o f the way and the real robber became present, Jagger was almost amused. But that amusement dropped and his stomach sunk (probably just like the others around him). The only difference was that he didn’t stay to watch where the feline turned bird landed. As soon as the thing had sprouted wings he had turned away and started back toward the stall where he was sure to find his boots. They were far more than this… magic happening behind him.
Unlike the people here, Jagger wasn’t interested in the remarkable feat that had just been accomplished. A feline turning into a bird why that had to be the works of the gods! That would be their first thoughts. Some would be frightened while others possibly rejoiced, thinking it as a glimmer of hope that their goddess was watching over them (even though food had been stolen). But it made Jagger’s stomach sick. He wasn’t fond of the gods, mostly because of his heritage he supposed. It had left him as an outcast and brand as a freak rather than normal or magnificent. Even when people didn’t think he was a halfing they still got uneasy with him because of his tall stature and hard, vivid stares. They would usually share that they had a funny feeling about him, leaving him frustrated. And the gods had almost nothing to do with him. He was simply an offspring from toying around with some human who needn’t have an important role in this world.
The merchant selling the boots he was interested in couldn’t stop jabbering about what had just happened. His old, blue eyes were wide with amazement, making him look crazier than he probably already came off to be with his wiry hair. But, somehow, Jagger had managed to draw his attention to him just often enough to purchase what he wanted. He even got them at a lower price since the man had gone into an excited frenzy yelling something about the god’s smiling down upon their city and its bountiful stock. Jagger decided to ignore it and turned away as quickly as possible, slinging his boots over his shoulder by the laces.
As he squeezed out of the market with the new determination to leave the city, he found himself frozen, eyes staring off in the direction of the huge castle. There lying casually at its steps was the cat and she seemed to be staring right over in his direction. For a moment he held her gaze and kept his lips tight. Eventually though he dropped his eyes and continued on, almost at a faster pace. This wasn’t the place to be caught talking to a cat or a goddess, that much he knew. The last thing he needed was for the people here to recall what he was. He simply wanted to get back to the forest and feel at home again. It made him feel like a complete hermit but he suddenly didn’t care.

All hope was lost. What more could she do without drawing complete attention to herself? A cat turning into a bird was a small feat, not quite enough to make people believe she was anything extraordinary. For all the humans knew, it could be their imagination. Theirs was always especially extreme.
Elejen let out a sigh. She drew her paws over her head, cuffed her ears, and then let them fall back down. It was growing tiresome looking for her son. One would think finding a demigod would be easy, but it was setting out to be quite the task. However, her golden eyes still continued to search eagerly for him.
After what seemed like an eternity, Elejen noticed a particular human staring squarely at her. She blinked a few times, oblivious to his gaze until she realized who had been looking at her. Once he turned and began to start off down the street, Elejen scurried after him. She scampered at his feet, toying playfully with his shoe strings as he walked.
Nonchalantly, she transformed into her natural form, which was human-like in appearance. She grasped Jagger's shoulder, to stop him, and then she gave him an infamous grin. "Jagger! Oh, how big you've gotten," Elejen exclaimed, looking him up and down. "I was just wondering how you were doing. You know, because I love you and such." She tilted her head, as if genuinely curious, but frankly, she knew how he was doing. And more than likely, he knew that she knew. But it was the thought that counted, right?
Elejen took a step or two away from him, arms akimbo as she examined him. "It's a shame... I would say you look more like Desino than you ever looked like me. Except for your hair, maybe," explained Elejen calmly, shaking her head. "But I can fix that, if you'd like."
She wondered if she had managed to get under his skin yet. That was all she wanted, just to pester him a bit. After all, if Elejen didn't pester you, she didn't like you. Perhaps that was why she didn't bother much with the Dros. She left them, more or less, to her brother, since they seemed to epitomize death anyways.
Elejen was beginning to feel the burning stares of people passing by, but, for some reason, it didn't compel her to hide herself. No, she wanted to talk to Jagger face-to-face. There was very little time for him, and when she did get the time to talk to him, she wanted it to be something he wouldn't forget. Having the goddess of Esune standing in front of you couldn't be unmemorable, could it? The common folk certainly didn't think so. Of course, she was just a figment of their imagination. A hallucination. It was so easy to dupe a human.
"Listen, you're welcome to visit me anytime you'd like," Elejen voiced with a menacing smirk. "All you have to do is ask. The others wouldn't mind." All she was doing was taunting him, simply prodding him along. She was craving some sort of reaction out of him, one that would let her know how he really felt toward her. Obviously he didn't care for her, but she needed verbal proof.

A chill zipped up his spine and numbed his tongue for a moment when he felt the grasp of a hand accompanied by his mother’s singsong voice. Instead of pushing onward and continuing to pretend like he hadn’t noticed her, Jagger stopped in his tracks and furrowed his brow. He had been caught and there was no way out of it without making a scene in this crowd. There was nowhere for him to slip away to and this frustrated him greatly. His eyes gave one last desperate scan before they finally met up with his mother’s. He didn’t make any efforts to grin at her though and instead found him pushing his eyebrows upward simply waiting for her to say why she was here in this city with him. And of course she was just as afraid of talking as he was (in other words, not at all).
As she spoke to him, Jagger felt his nose crinkle up giving the impression that either he had no idea what she was talking about or he was simply confused by her approaching him at all. In all honesty he felt neither of those things but apparently his face found that it was the appropriate expression to share with her. He was sure that she was trying to get something else out of him though he wasn’t sure what and he doubted that he could meet up to the expectations of a goddess who had put an entire planet together and breathed life into every creature he’d ever see. So the confused stare was the only thing that got out of him for now as well as a sharp frown that turned on his lips. Now he looked slightly disgusted.
For some reason he doubted her reason for being here. She was a goddess. A goddess of practically everything so why on Esune would she need to actually show herself to know that he was doing alright? Hell, she could probably even send him little, freaky mind messages to tell him such trivial things like this! He wasn’t even sure why she would really bother. She had created him (maybe more so than the others he knew) so she must have been aware of these feelings. Or maybe he just assumed too much of her or of any type of god. He supposed that not all of them could be mind readers or posses the powers to feel other creature’s feelings. So he laid off a little bit in his head but had yet to wipe off his awkward expression.
He cocked a brow at her, “Couldn’t you just peer down from your castle in the sky and know how I’m doing?” His question was very nonchalant and airy, changing his entire expression as he asked it. He almost appeared snobbish now. But why not? He was her son and if she loved him so dearly then she could put up with his mood swings. That’s what mothers were supposed to do. And she owed him plenty of understanding feelings by now. But he quickly brushed that aside and tightened his grip on the laces of the boots that he had swung over his shoulder. He tossed his chin up and then started forward again. “Why don’t we talk and walk? I’m sure you can just zap yourself back here whenever you feel like it anyways.”
Jagger started back forward, but this time he decided not to make such haste since he had already been found out. He strolled through the people easily and kept his eyes up and away from all of them, not wanting to deal with the stares and questions by those who had watched his mother make a small show. He wouldn’t show or admit to it but it made him feel uneasy with all those eyes up on them. It made him want to spring forward. But that would only cause more stares he was sure.
He had never really seen his uncle. Not in person, at least but simply in pictures or heard a description by some storyteller. He wasn’t sure if he could believe any of them. Some had described him as completely demonic, after all, and Jagger really didn’t think that he looked all that dark and menacing. Sure he wasn’t friendly but… demonic? He doubted that much.
“Do I? I have heard some nasty things about him…” he murmured, just to amuse her for now. “How do you expect me to visit?”

Elejen was well aware of the stares she was receiving from the humans. She welcomed them, as she was craving the attention. After all, she had only created them and their world. She deserved some gratitude and recognition. Yes, Elejen was a jealous and vengeful goddess. But wasn't life itself jealous and vengeful?
It seemed that her son wasn't completely void of her genes. In fact, he was quite the sarcastic halfling. But that didn't bother her; it amused her, more than anything. It reassured her that he was indeed her son, because no one could have such arrogance and still possess an air of composure like her own.
"I could," answered Elejen thoughtfully, "but then I wouldn't be talking to you, face-to-face. And also, these humans' mouths wouldn't be dropping if I was in my castle, would they!" She gave a hearty laugh at this, such a laugh that was almost off-putting for her size.
As Jagger suggested walking while they spoke, Elejen nodded slightly in his direction, shrugging off the rest of his statement. She paced lightly beside of him, glancing from the corner of her eyes at him every now and then. He didn't look very happy to have his mother with him. What boy could honestly hate their mother? Especially if they were the goddess of Esune? Of course, Jagger didn't hate her. There may have been some dislike, but Elejen wasn't a figure one could hate. If she figured out that someone did, in fact, hate her, then, well, she would take the appropriate measures.
"Nasty things? About Desino?" Elejen retorted shockingly, almost in a gasp. "Well, I'm afraid I can't deter those things! He is a terrible, frightening god," she added in a mocking tone, just knowing that he would get her back somehow for saying that. "Why, Jagger, I expect you to visit by growing a set of wings and coming to see me. Or you could do as all the gods do and simply teleport yourself there. It's simple, really," she explained in a smooth manner, smiling over at him. Suddenly, her eyes lit up and her expression grew excited. She snapped her fingers, then said to Jagger, "We should cause a little mischief, don't you think?"
Elejen continued to tread alongside Jagger, but her eyes were searching her surroundings, attempting to find something to cause some stir in the humans. There were the merchant stands and the guards and the occasional homeless family, but nothing seemed to pop out at her. The noble families were a rarity; it did make her think back to the castle, however. It was always her favorite place to visit. Those pompous, lazy humans in the castle were always humorous to mess with.
Elejen's slender fingers wrapped around Jagger's wrist, and she gave him a soft pull in the direction of the castle. Her grip became tighter, like shackles, as she continued to tug at him. "This will be fun, I promise. There's nothing like causing trouble with the nobles!" she guaranteed with an exasperated tone.
She doubted he would go along with her, but if he didn't, she'd do it anyways. She could get him involved with her deeds, whether he wanted to take part in them or not. So he had a choice: he could voluntarily get into some mischief, or he could prattle about his day until Elejen forced a felony or two upon his shoulders. Either way, he wasn't going to escape her wrath. It was just too tempting to not leave her only offspring out of the loop. Even if he did get into a mess he couldn't clean up, Elejen would make time in her schedule to help him out a little. What was that called? Ah, divine intervention.

She was a smart mouth. It was no question to him where he had inherited his barbed tongue from, though he had little recollection of any kind of father figure so it would be unfair to say that he hadn’t gained it from both ends of the gene pool. Her words made him annoyed, and he was sure the fingers of his free hand twitching at his side, begging to smash something in. But he kept his cool and raised his chin like it was hardly a big deal at all. So what if he couldn’t sprout a pair of wings and fly off to wherever it was that the gods all met? And teleporting wasn’t all that amazing… it was something that he could leave without at least. He just had to not think of those things and he would feel much better about not inheriting any of the above. Had he been a normal human then it wouldn’t bother him so, he thought. Because all humans couldn’t do those things… he was only half of what they were and yet he hardly had anything unworldly to brag about. You had to slice open his skin before he could do anything remotely interesting.
Despite all of his negative thinking he still decided to keep up with the confidence that he liked to exude. He had found out at a very young age that if you at least didn’t fake your assurance of yourself then you would more than likely be taken advantage of or pursued in the worst kind of way. He didn’t want to suffer from either of those things when it came to the lady Elejen because he was more than certain that if she saw the slightest signs of weakness she would act on it. If there was one thing he could admit to himself about her it was that his heart did hold a kind of fear of her. But, he hoped, that he was not the only one in this world who feared the power of the gods. It was one of the few things that kept him chained to showing his respects when spotted.
The sound of the word mischief in a city filled with humans truly did not strike his fancy. Just the idea of saying the word back made his pallet tingle as though warning him that merely uttering the word back would get himself into trouble. So instead of repeating the word back to her, Jagger simply stopped in his tracks and looked down at her. This time he couldn’t hold back his true feelings. He looked at her like she was completely mad.
“Why on Esune would I be interested in cau-“ his voice was cut off when he felt a sudden tug on his wrist. He glanced in the direction that she was pulling and his heart had instantly sunk in his chest. She was pulling him over in the direction of the castle. When she mentioned the word nobles his face only seemed to show more worry than before. He was left speechless, completely unsure of how to handle this situation. Anyone in their right minds would have simply followed along and listened to someone with such power. But he wasn’t just anyone. He was her son and he felt like that meant she would damn well do what she wanted with him simply because he was her own. This made him not in his right mind, he tugged back.
While Jagger tried to loosen his grip by shaking his arm around awkwardly. “I refuse to be put in that kind of danger,” he retorted. “Unlike you I can be tossed into a dungeon and left to rot. You could just teleport out of there!”
As Jagger tried to free himself from her grip his elbow dug into the fatty arm of a man stroll along behind them. Jagger glanced over his shoulder only to see the stubby man look up at him like he was completely out of his mind. Considering he was in a tight spot and feeling like a cornered rat, Jagger simply glared at the man and gave a snort as though it were his fault that he had run into him. “I never!” the meaty man pronounced. He then made it alright for him to prod into Jagger’s business and peer up at the boots he’d bought and then over at the lady with her arm around him. Jagger could already imagination the assumptions running through his porky little brain. “A thief? My lady, has this boy stolen from you? I could inform the guard at once!”

Her son was quite the stick in the mud. Sure, he was of human descent also, but is that what really made him so boring? Humans were risk-takers, competitively so with the other races. However, they disliked change, and Elejen was probably a large step in the direction of change.
But Jagger was hers. She had the right to do what she wanted with him. His father was dead, so if he wished to claim him, he couldn't! Thankfully, Jagger didn't know his father; otherwise, he would probably much rather be with him than be visited by Elejen.
He was feisty, she had to give him that. He had the gall to speak back to a goddess, and his own mother, at that! Of course, he probably didn't realize that he was committing such a treasonous act, so she wouldn't get upset with him.
"It won't be dangerous if I'm there," responded Elejen, her tone somewhat sharp. "Perhaps rotting in the dungeon would be good for you. It might toughen you up a bit." Her voice was most certainly acidic, practically dripping with venom, all because Jagger was too afraid to stir up some chaos. He surely was not her son.
Elejen was about to release her grip on Jagger's wrist until he jutted a particularly hefty man in the side. It was such an opportune moment, that even she was a bit shocked at the event. He had just burrowed himself into a deep, dark hole now. That husky man was the catalyst that would set off Jagger. She was such a bad person, but she was in a position to be.
"Yes, yes, he did. You should definitely call the guards over here, because this delinquent is a no-good thief," she responded matter-of-factly with words full of assuring. Her hold on Jagger coiled tighter around him, to make it seem like she was genuinely attempting to keep him from escaping. Because she wouldn't be able to catch him if he did start running. Because she was a weak human female. That was the stereotype, right?
Elejen's glassy eyes flitted toward Jagger's, trying to make some kind of contact with him. When the obese man wasn't looking directly at her, she tossed a wild grin at her son, as if it were some kind of safe haven. But, in fact, her smiles were never anything good. She loved to be bad and when you were bad, everything about you was bad. Even the purest things in life like laughter was a well of corruption.
"I think this boy should be locked up in the dungeon for all eternity, unless the goddess Elejen should have mercy on him!" she exclaimed in the haughtiest sense of superiority she could muster (which, bluntly, wasn't hard for her). Her eyes left Jagger, rolling to the top of her sockets in contempt of the criminal, and then they lowered to the man who had caught Jagger red-handed. Even at him, she gazed down upon the man like he was inferior, because that was how a human would act, especially if they were considered a noble. It was a flaw in their design, but at the same time, they were so amusing to imitate. They were so unlike the Narro or the Dros simply because the humans had such a rigid caste system, where only the poor helped the poor. In any other society, every member was treated with some sort of dignity.
Elejen couldn't possibly imagine what was running through Jagger's head right now. He surely absolutely despised her, if he didn't already. But what was the point in having a child if you couldn't have a little fun with them? He was specifically hers, and that was his first mistake.

Jagger jaw twitched, grinding his teeth together while the chubby intruder went on about him possibly being a thief. Jagger had no idea how anyone would go along with that considering he had just purchased the boots he had slung over his shoulder but obviously his mother wasn’t going to help him out with this little problem that he had encountered. It was just his luck wasn’t it? He refused to go looking for trouble so it just went ahead and came and found him. In the back of his mind he was swearing to himself that this was all his mother’s doing when in reality he hadn’t the slightest idea of whether she could control things like that or not. Still, it was much easier to place the blame on her rather than on coincidence since she seemed to enjoy making him suffer a little bit or in this case a lot a bit. Really, what kind of mother was she doing this to him? Most mothers would give their very lives away from their children! Okay, maybe not all in the human race but he liked to think that they would. No reason why he should though considering his own mother was tightening her grip and going along with the man’s brainless assumption.
At first his expression was nothing but irritation and he expressed this with an eye roll as his mother went along with the story. But as she got more into the role and he noticed more eyes peering his way, he decided that maybe it was the time to panic a little bit. His brows raised and his lips parted as he glanced around rather frantically. His confidence was slipping but he had yet to start shaking his boots yet. He quickly tossed his head around to look toward his mother just in time to catch her wicked grin, which he met with complete scorn. He didn’t care who she was because she was lying and trying to ruin him! Jagger was not the type to sit around and let someone push him around like that. So instead of standing there like a shocked animal, he started shaking his arm free again. Her grasp was ridiculously strong though and he shouldn’t have expected anything less from her. He continued trying though, twisting and turning his wrist, anything to get himself free. In the meantime she was going on about him needing to be tossed away into the dungeon.
Jagger glanced back over his shoulder again. The meatball had hurried off shouting out for assistance while others looked on and started hurrying about too. Some even looked keen on the idea of saving a faire lady from the evil thief too. If only they knew that this little lady was really a goddess out to get her only son in trouble. In the distance men in shiny armor could be seen pushing through the crowd, trailing Jagger’s new man to kill. He turned his eyes back toward Elejen, not a spot of care was caught in his gaze now. He was not going to be drug into a dungeon. Thieves were killed left and right and he wasn’t ready to have some dimwitted short, fat man be the end of him. Oh, he supposed his mother would have something to do with it too.
“At least if I rot in the dungeon I’ll be left in your brother’s care. I’d pick pits of fire over you any day,” he breathed haughtily. And with that said he snapped his arm from her grasp and whipped the boots from his shoulder at her, letting them fly free from his grasp. He turned on his heel then and faced the crowd for a moment, getting a sudden eruption of shouts and boos. He just glared down at them and took off before any of the guards could reach him. He jumped down a few steps and pushed passed a bunch of old jabbering and now shouting women. To reach the gates of the city would be a downhill run for him. It made things fast and a bit scary as he found himself almost tripping in his worn boots a few times. His arms would flail out to help keep his balance every so often. Running into people as he went didn’t help either.
By now he was almost afraid to look over his shoulder for several reasons. The first being that he didn’t want to see some flaming demon from the pits of the world chasing after him. His mother’s scorn probably was not the most pleasant of things. Then there was the inevitable gathering of people that were either watching or chasing after him. But, most importantly, if he broke his concentration on running down this slope he would probably find his face pressed against the ground.

Watching the stubby man hobble down to alert the guards was such a thrilling sight. She could finally show Jagger just how fun the humans were. He didn't seem to believe her!
Elejen noticed he was attempting to escape from her grip, but that certainly wasn't happening. Did he take her for a real weak human? She may look harmless, but she certainly had an advantage over him and over all of her creations. It almost made her angry that he was even trying to get away from her.
She was overly excited to see the fat man come running back with the guards trailing him. Her anticipation had gotten the better of her, however, as Jagger had jerked his wrist out of her hold, and departed without a goodbye. Well, she wouldn't say his words were exactly a goodbye, anyways. In fact, his words caused a feeling of rage to smolder inside of her. It bit at her throat and twisted her guts. Her heart became hardened, and if she had to, she would punish Jagger herself. No one said anything like that to her face. No one wanted to be with her brother rather than her! Especially her son.
Elejen stood idle, her eyes following Jagger through the crowd. Was he trying to flee from her or the guards? Because, honestly, did he think he could outwit a goddess? The guardsmen had taken off after him, but Elejen spectated quietly as she pranced over to an abandoned alley. Once she was in the darkness of the alleyway, she veiled herself with magic. Elejen shape-shifted into an immense bird with talons that could tear branches from trees. The beak was golden in color and curved downwards to pluck unsuspecting animals from the forest floor. Her feathers were ivory, the purest of whites, which was ironic, as Elejen wasn't out for a noble cause. She was going to hunt Jagger down, and if he wanted to be with Desino, then he could very well have his wish.
Her great wings unfurled and with a great gust of wind, she lifted herself off of the ground. Elejen grasped onto the side of the building with her talons to gain her balance; once she was situated and a gale caught her wings, she bolted off of the building with a piercing cry. For a moment, she hovered on the wind, watching the guards overhead as they shoved through the crowd to find Jagger. However, she had an eagle's eye view. She didn't need to push through people to see him. He was there, trying to escape to the gates of the kingdom.
The zephyrs that were keeping her afloat died down, and that was when Elejen decided to dive at him like some sort of kamikaze pilot. Just as she was about to reach him, her talons outstretched to grab his shoulders, but she veered to the left of him, taking the brute force of the wall against her frame. She hopped alongside the wall, watching Jagger angrily. It was against her nature to hurt someone, and it felt especially wrong to wound her own offspring. He was fortunate that she had a conscience, otherwise she would have picked him up hundreds of feet in the air and dropped him.
She continued to pursue him, however, until she got close enough to peck at his ankles. If he thought that just because she couldn't hurt him that he was going to get away, then he was very wrong. Elejen would follow him until he apologized to her. After all, she was just having some fun with him. That seemed entirely harmless (at least to her, it did).
"Jagger, you have no right to say such a thing to me!" Elejen warned, "I was only trying to show you how to have a somewhat good time." She stopped bouncing after him, returning to her humanoid form. "I wasn't going to let them hurt you, and if you can't trust me, then I suppose I'm doing something wrong."

Jagger continued running on, ignoring all of the sounds that he heard behind him. His heart had started beating at a rapid pace and his breath was becoming rugged and hard, hurting the interior of his throat. But he kept on at it, his cheeks turning pink every time he stepped it up a notch to run even faster. He wasn’t even aware that he could run so fast from anything. He could have been one heck of a thief if he had to be! Then again, running from wild animals all of your young life also helped in getting you into shape. Every time a foot hit the ground he could hear it all to clearly and quite frankly it was giving him a horrible headache. But the shrill cry of a bird did a charming job in encouraging him to run even faster than he had been before, if that was even possible. Everything seemed to get a little more worse off when he noticed a shadow outlining him, a much bigger shadow and he was afraid that the giant cry he had heard just may have been that demon he had been dreaming up in his head. Maybe his mother could read minds. That was a horrifying thought at the moment. It was especially horrifying since she could probably breathe his fear in by now.
A loud sound startled him and he almost fell over the pathway to the gates of the city. But he didn’t stop for anything. Not the shouts of the guards, not the sound of the large bird slowing, nothing. Jagger continued running far beyond the gates, back to the shelter of trees. He could hear distant shouts but they weren’t following him anymore and he dared to take a peek over his shoulder at the city. Sure enough, the guards had stopped but the bird was still swooping around after him. He knew what the bird was though, as he had never seen anything like it before meaning it was his mother most likely seeking vengeance on him for his poor choice of words. He hadn’t found them very poor…
After a screech from his mother, he peeked behind him to see her changing back into the form that looked most human. When he noticed this (maybe stupidly), he stopped his running, breathing heavily. He turned to face her, backing up a few paces so that she wouldn’t be too close to him. He gulped in air as he stared at her, his body too tired from his rush of adrenaline to muster up the strength to glare at her. So he just watched for a few moments, hardly even taking in any of the words that she had said to him for now. He wasn’t really interested in apologizing to her for what she had just done to him! What kind of person held their only son in the middle of a city of people and called him a thief and then very loudly suggested that he be thrown in the dungeon unless she decided to take mercy on him? Yeah, he doubted that many could tell that their parents had done such a thing to them. He had to be the only person in this world that could raise up his hand and tell a tale like this. But, then again, who would believe him when he would say that he was the son of the goddess who had created this world? He’d be dragged to the dungeon in no time for such a claim. It was a good thing he didn’t feel so high and mighty because of his bloodline.
“Must have done something wrong?” he repeated through heavy breaths. “I don’t even know what I should call you half of the time!” He found the strength to furrow his brows at her now as he waved a hand in her direction to make his point. “I mean… what? Mother, momma, Lady, Goddess? I have no idea!”
He supposed the point of that was that she had sort of been absent during his life so how could he trust her completely? In reality, she was always around but not really. And it was hard to trust a goddess, he was sure. Maybe she didn’t have the same attachment as humans did to their children and that was simply the human in him talking. But growing up in forest basically alone really wasn’t something that most mothers would let their children do either…
“Why should I trust you? You just like to get me into trouble.”

Fortunately, there had been no one to see her transform into her normal self, because she was in no mood to deal with the humans. She was here to deal with her son, now, and had absolutely no intentions of breaking her focus. Apparently she had made a not-so-good impression on him before, but that could certainly be rearranged.
Once Jagger finally stopped, Elejen was unsure of what to say to him. She hadn't anticipated him actually stopping, but there it seemed that she was wrong, again. Everything was so unpredictable in the mortal world; it drove her mad not being able to see what the mortals would do.
His rant was somewhat perplexing. However, Elejen was certain that she got the brunt of it. Perhaps he felt alone without her, but she was, indeed watching him all the time. As was his uncle. If he thought for a moment that Elejen didn't care whatsoever, then he was extremely incorrect.
"Well, most people call me Elejen or Goddess Elejen," she started with a sarcastic smirk, "but I would prefer if you called me mother." The goddess then turned away from him, pondering about his next question. The lack of an answer was a strange feeling, one that left her feeling less powerful, but she could just as easily tell Jagger something like 'because I said so.' Of course, coming from her, that was a very legitimate statement.
"You want to know why you should trust me?" mimicked Elejen, her voice mocking. 'You should trust me, because why would I let my only son get hurt? Why would I even bother to attempt to spend time with you? Even if I have to come to this world and intervene myself, I wouldn't let those humans do anything to you. I'm not supposed to tamper with the natural flow of things, but you are the exception." And if that wasn't a good enough explanation, Elejen had plenty more words to say to him. She had simply decided to cut short because she felt like she was losing her own attention on the subject.
Her eyes wandered up toward the tree tops, blankly watching them sway in the wind, which made her think of the little folk legends that people came up with. How Elejen's breath was the wind or how her tears were the rain. Honestly, it could all function fine without her controlling it. However, she would let them believe their myths, as she did quite enjoy the attention. And besides, it made her brother look like a cold-hearted monster, which she found humorous. He was really quite the opposite, but no one needed to know that, except for the dead.
Elejen exhaled sharply, letting her gaze fall onto Jagger. "Do you still hate me? Do you still not know what to call me?" she inquired serenely, as if to push away his negative thoughts about her. That was all she could manage to do at that point in time. Elejen was unsure how to deal with him, though she had watched countless others deal with their own children. One would think she would be a natural with motherly things, but Desino was probably better with it than she was.
But since Jagger was not all for getting in trouble like she was, there wasn't much else to do on Esune. Elejen had seen everything there was to see about the world, and the only fun thing to do was cause a little havoc. After all, you couldn't be good all the time.

Mother. Thinking the word in his head was completely different than actually saying it out loud. He wasn’t sure if he could even do that and he also wasn’t certain if he had ever said that she was his mother out loud! The closest he had gotten to that is just admitting that he was the son of the Goddess Elejen. Nothing more than that. It was simply too foreign and seemed way out of place. It was almost like calling a complete stranger your mother. Well, almost, not quite. He knew who she was through stories and her little visits every now and then. But that really left him nothing to hold onto to call a bond. What did they have between each other that was strong? Well, they both kind of got on the other’s nerves but that didn’t make any kind of caring or love. Maybe he just had this all wrong. She was the goddess of everything and surely knew what was best anyways, right? Somehow that really didn’t seem to do it for Jagger either. Goddess or not, she had proved to be rather distasteful to have around to him…
“Call you… no!” he stuttered out, frustrated with her reply to him. He rolled his eyes and then finally found the strength to straighten himself out to his full height. He tilted his head back, his chin now pointing up toward the sky. He let out a loud, fatigued sigh before jerking his head back in her direction. His eyes had narrowed at her again but this time it was because of the mocking voice she had shot back at him after his question. The fear that he had in him a few moments ago was very quickly disintegrating and his patience for her smart mouth had completely drained after running from an entire mob of people. He still let her get her bits in though, just because he wanted to hear what she had to say about herself. Not that any of it was actually a good enough explanation to him. To his great disappointment, Jagger had no idea whether she was being completely serious with him or if she was full of crap. It was hard to tell after all of the dramatics that she had put him through. This could have been another one of her convincing acts to get him to believe her. Damn, he really wasn’t sure what she was doing.
After she was finished speak, Jagger gripped his hands into fists and turned away from her, trudging back in the direction of the forest. He didn’t go very far though and spun back around almost as quickly as he had turned around. His bright eyes were still narrowed but this time a tad more thought and effort seemed to be clicking around in his mind. He pointed a slender finger over toward her now, ready to give her some kind of retort at her feelings. But he decided he had nothing to say to her regarding it. Part of him still told him that this woman- this goddess was a liar and only trying to pull him into some kind of trickery. Every story went that way and every incident that he had been in with her had gone that way as well. So why should he deny that? Jagger turned his back on her again.
He wanted to go ahead and just leave it at that. He had nothing to say to her and really no reason of being around her. Then again he didn’t really have much purpose beyond this but he didn’t need to admit to that. His brain could think of a thousand more important things that he should have been doing right now! Well, maybe that wasn’t completely true but oh well! She’d just have to stalk him from wherever it was she went when she wasn’t bothering him. When he heard her speak again he almost blew her off completely. But his need to say something got the better of him and he turned back around.
“No, mother,” he spoke, putting a lot of emphasizes and sarcasm into the word mother. “I don’t hate you. I just would really rather spend an eternity with a god of death than with you. And I think mother is the perfect name for you. Mother.” He nose wrinkled, almost making him look like he was snarling the words at her. He supposed he was though…

No one had ever defied her in such a way. No one ever even dreamed of talking to her in such a manner! This was completely mind-blowing to Elejen. She never... she couldn't even fathom that someone would stand up to her like Jagger insisted on doing. Did he realize she could make that tree fall on his head? Or have an animal eat his face? He seemed to think that she wasn't gifted with all these powers. She controlled how the universe spun, yet he was talking back to her, being a smart ass.
That was fine. Elejen could shrug it off. Had he been any normal mortal, she would have turned him into dust and let the wind carry him off. However, despite his efforts to get himself killed, Elejen wouldn't do such a thing. As much as she would have loved to throw him into the pit of the dead right now, he was the only mortal that meant even the slightest bit to her.
Elejen's eyes trailed him as he began into the forest. He didn't get very far before he had to speak his mind to him. All she could do was grin wickedly at him as he spouted off to her. What a troublemaker, he was. It made her somewhat less angry that he was even yelling at her.
"Well, considering I am your mother, I would imagine it is the perfect name for me. However, I don't think you want to spend eternity with Desino. He's rather boring! Not the big, bad demon you would think he is," explained Elejen in a droll fashion. She stood idly for a moment, eyeing Jagger. Then she moved toward him, her expression suddenly void of humor. Once she was close enough to be intimidating, Elejen stared him straight in the eyes with her brows furrowed and teeth clenched together. "I think you ought to rethink what you say to me. How easily you forget who I am! You're taking advantage of my kindness - what little I have of it - and it's really irritating me." After she left off, she stepped away from him, regained her composure, and then replaced her anger with a smile. As if none of that had happened.
And then there was that guilt again. It twisted and turned in her insides like a worm beneath the dirt. It was painful, in a sense of the word. She felt like if she let it grow anymore that it would be there permanently. However, she wouldn't let her son know that she felt just awful about getting in his face. After all, he didn't seem to feel too terrible about shouting at her. And since she was the dominant being here, she was going to act like it.
Elejen swallowed the mass in the back of her throat. It wasn't going to best her. Not now. Not here. If this insolent boy knew how much he really meant to her, then he would surely take advantage of it. And without a care in the world whether or not he hurt her, too. Was it even possible to harm her? She had never felt any sort of heartbreak, but she had also never been so attached to someone. If something were to happen to Desino, then she may be lugubrious, but then again, nothing mortal could happen to him. So, Elejen supposed she had nothing to fear until now. That being said, did she fear Jagger or did she fear what would become of him? Perhaps a little of both.

When the goddess of life made herself at a comfortable distance for giving him a show of anger right in his face, Jagger suddenly felt his knees weaken and then his legs simply went numb. Of course, he was something like a wild animal because of how and where he had spent his childhood days (in that forest behind her). If it had taught him anything it was that he was not allowed to show his fears or his weaknesses or else he’d be eaten alive. So, out of pure instinct, he found himself trying to look just as fearsome back at her. Maybe it simply ran in the family but he was going to try and convince himself otherwise while he swallowed the lump in his throat and furrowed his brows right back at her. His jaw tightened and he let a brow twitch to express his tiredness of her being so close to his face. The chances of her backing down were very obviously slim to none which made him realize very quickly that he was probably playing out the scene right before she sentenced him to a very sudden and probably agonizing death. And considering that really could happen… he was a bit nervous.
She finally backed away from him though, grinning like she had just accomplished something. He was feeling grateful for the fact that he was still breathing and wasn’t missing any body parts, but he still couldn’t help but keep his ego a little puffed up while he stared back at her still. His brain had long been formulating words to hiss back at her. He gave both of them a moment to breathe though, knowing very well that he needed one to regain the feeling that he had seemed to lose in his legs a moment beforehand.
Now Jagger wiped some of the sternness from his face and cocked a single thick brow at her. He even managed a light smirk back, though his irritation was very apparent. “Then you may as well rid of me now,” he advised her in a low, mocking tone. “Because you have not seen anything yet, mother. I assure you of that.”
Jagger held his ground, staying almost perfectly still in his stance. His eyes stayed rested on her unmoving and this was really probably because of the fear that was churning around in his stomach once again because of his brash mouth and stubbornness. He really didn’t feel very assured about himself though and was purely running on what he did best which was apparently pushing buttons and trying to outdo the other person to keep himself alive. The thing was that this was not another person. This was the creator of life and he wasn’t sure of the creator of life would ever have to back down from a battle of any kind. If she didn’t like the way you were acting then she would just split the ground beneath your feet and let you get swallowed up and then taken away by her brother. Jagger was not sure if gods felt sympathy or love.

There was no doubt that Elejen's remorse had completely fled her. It had been stripped from her like a demon from a human host. It was reluctant to go, but it was forced out by the smoldering anger in Elejen's body. And the visibility of her rage was beginning to surface; her fists clenched, her teeth grinded against each other, and a certain flame - no, inferno - was in her eyes. She was growing tired of playing games with Jagger. If he didn't realize who he was talking to shortly, she would have his head.
Elejen didn't even bother to speak to him, then. Her optics stayed linked to his, burning a hole through his soul (figuratively, of course). Her wrath was building in her chest, caged like a bird for now, but the iron beams of the cage were beginning to melt from the intensity of the fire in her stomach. The heat coursed through her veins, replacing her blood, and if one could only see her insides, it looked like a wildfire.
Standing there, motionless and stiff, she looked as though she wasn't going to do anything except run away. However, Elejen didn't have a fight or flight sense. She only had a fight sense. And with the blink of an eye, she had lunged at Jagger, taking the collar of his shirt in both hands. She tightened her grip so rigidly that she almost lost circulation to them, and he would have to cut her hands off before he could get out of her hold. Her stare turned icy as she leered at him square in the eyes. The frown on her face had become imminent and was certainly an ugly part of her features.
Elejen pulled him by his shirt toward her forcefully. A sneer crossed her palet, almost as if she were snarling at him. "No, Jagger, you haven't seen anything yet. Have you seen Esune torn apart by an earthquake or set ablaze by a firestorm? Do you know who causes that? Do you know that I could give you an agonizingly slow death?" she spat at him.
"I don't like your retaliation, son," Elejen growled in a low tone, "and, for my sake, I won't stand for it. Either you apologize to me, or I send you to live with the demons, and believe me, they are more unpleasant than me." All the meanwhile, her vicegrip on him never budged and her stare never wavered. When she meant business, she meant business. He was just fortunate that she loved him or she wouldn't have hesitated to cast him out of Esune.
She had nothing more to say to him, however. She felt that her point was perfectly clear, and if he wasn't quivering like a pathetic, cornered animal by now, then he was truly daft. Elejen was not pleased, and if she wasn't pleased, none of Esune was. Where there were lives to be born, they were delayed. Flowers meant to bloom only closed shut to the warm air. The hatchlings in their eggs continued to stir, but could not break through their shells.
There was a hint of guilt in her system, but she shrugged it off as though it were a vexing gnat. She would not be pulled down by her mortal emotions. Gods had to be firm when they needed to be, and teaching a child when to shut their damned mouth was a strict lesson to be learned.
