since his memory first began to register, noble has been around shiva. as a child, he was her playmate, and sometimes her defender. he instinctively knew he wasn't her equal, however. she was the queen. he was... well, not of any notable descent, despite his name. nonetheless, he's faithfully served her and only her through his entire life.
when he was just an infant, noble's mother perished from an illness and his father, stricken with grief and not wanting to be saddled with sole responsibility of a child, simply left his son upon an unknown doorstep with the infant's name scrawled hastily on an empty envelope and fled. the baby was found the next morning. instead of a pair of loving, adoptive parents, noble was unwanted by this family as well. the woman who found him was greedy and selfish, and not at all the motherly type. she had heard, however, that the king and queen of galen were searching for a playmate for their young daughter. the woman decided to sell the mysterious child to the royal family, which worked out in everyone's favor.
as noble grew into a little boy, he found that simply getting bossed around by shiva was much easier than trying to defend himself, especially since everyone seemed to be more inclined to believe her story. he had no sense of what royalty or social standing were. he just knew that his wings, somewhat short and mottled gray, weren't as lavish as most of the others, who sported long, pearl-colored plumage.
noble doesn't remember exactly when he stopped seeing the king and queen. he just knew that one day, shiva was suddenly in charge of everything he could see. she seemed to get even more bossy. noble was naive, though, and passively decided to accept what was going on.
as time wore on, the two grew into teenagers and then young adults. over that time, noble had to remind himself that he worked for shiva, and harboring any feelings for her (even friendship felt risky at times) just wouldn't be right. he couldn't help the stirring in his heart, though. to this day, he's never mentioned his emotions to her, and he most likely never will.
