Deprived of the chance to ignore while still young, now that Eden was allowed past the boundaries of her street, she took full advantage of her freedom and explored with childlike curiosity, often not paying attention to her obvious physical limitations. While one could never say that she appeared frail, she was obviously abnormally thin with an alabaster complexion, only brightened by a pale pink that brushed her cheeks because of her current exertion. Her clothes just barely clung to her petite frame. Her mother could sew, but not well, and they hardly ever fit. Eden didn’t notice and didn’t think twice about the fact that she looked quite a bit younger and more breakable than a girl her age ought to. Bare foot, dust from the streets chased their way up her legs, adding to her somewhat neglected experience. Eden was far from neglected- her parents showered her with love because she was their ‘miracle’ child. Then, of course, there were the attentions of Desino…she supposed she ought to be afraid of him. All the other children seemed to be. But she wasn’t. Despite her limitations, Eden had always been abnormally fearless, possibly because she trusted that Desino would always be there to catch her before she fell. Maybe that was her greatest fault- that she was too trusting.
Now, Eden had wandered far past where she had ever been, not taking into account the fact that she might not be able to find her way back. A sense of direction had never been her strongest suit, and she had found herself hopelessly lost within half an hour. At first it had been quite the adventure, wandering away from her family’s home and into the streets of the city, but now she saw just how foolish it had been. Of course, despite it all, she wasn’t afraid just yet, certain that she would find her way back home without issue. After all, she can’t have wandered too far, right? She wasn’t exactly a quick traveler and was hindered even more by the fact that she liked to take in her surroundings, appreciate every little view. Still, she had managed to move far enough away from her home that she was having a very difficult time finding her way back.
At first, Eden had an easy time laughing it off, thinking that it only added to the adventure. As she continued onwards, trying to find her way home, she found herself growing shorter and shorter of breath, just as her limbs grew exponentially more tired until she felt as though she could no longer move forward. Then, desperation started to set in as she looked around, trying to find a friendly face. There was no one. Tired, but too proud to rest in view of the vrowds bustling down the street. Quietly, she snuck into an alleyway where she seated herself, leaning against the wall of a building as she struggled to catch her breath. Her cheeks, once pleasantly flushed, were bright red from exertion. It was just a little rest…then maybe she’d try to get back home.

To be honest, Desino was not someone who was extremely fond of the human city. Unlike his sister, he didn’t really find it all that entertaining to run around and play tricks on the rather violent and worrisome race of creatures. The upside of them though was that their image was much like he and his sister could look much like them as they were much like them. The only different between Desino and this bunch was that he could refrain from overreacting…
So if he was not so happy with hanging around these wild human beings then why was he wondering around this erratic city? Well he had a bit of a duty that he liked to attend. It took him away from the usual sadness and hardships of dealing with death all of your existence. Yes, finding someone who was full of life and curiosity always managed to pull his mind away. It wasn’t long ago that he had blessed a family in this city with the life f their daughter. She was not meant to keep her life as she had been born so small and sickly. As soon as she had been brought into the world Desino had been pulled in their direction to take her from it. But the grief and sadness that her parents had was too much. They had been good people and to him deserved a miracle. He had allowed the baby girl to live and kept a close eye on her since. Elejen had not been too pleased as life was hers to give and deal with. But Desino was used to the goddess giving him a hard time and simply carried on with letting the young girl live. She grew into a wonderful, little human being too. Even if she was not material to make a huge difference in this world, Desino was still glad for the choice he had made all those years ago.
Today Desino was going to the city for his visit with her. It wasn’t always easy to locate her in the normal human sort of way. She was good at getting around now that she was allowed to be out and about. She took advantage of her parents trusting her to go out now. Desino wasn’t sure if he was so comfortable with it considering he was very well aware of all of the dangers in the world but… he could do nothing about that. He was not supposed to interfere with the humans too much… but, then again, neither was his sister.
Eden was not anywhere near her home today. It annoyed Desino slightly but it wasn’t hard for him to get over it. Besides, it couldn’t be hard for him to actually find her. No, Desino merely had to lock onto her in his mind and he could follow the trail to her. One of those godly perks, you know?
She had traveled further than usual. Desino had the feeling that maybe she had gotten lost this time… He strode through the crowd, keeping his chin down to keep a low profile. That was not a difficult deed to do in this crowd though. Finally he was sure he found her and turned quickly into a little nook of the city. There in the shadows was resting the frail figure of Eden. Desino simply stared down at her for the moment.
“Are you lost?”

The very beginnings of fear that she had felt earlier had somehow softened into a general feeling of resignation. Fear was a useless emotion, to be honest, doing nothing but muddle her thoughts, making it more difficult for her to deal with the issue at hand. The more calm that she was, the more likely that she would be able to retrace her steps. Frail, though she might have been, once she had rest, it would be no hardship to find her way back, or at least, that is what she told herself to assuage her now agitated nerves. Just a few more minutes, that’s all, she assured herself, wrapping her knees closer to her chest, resting her chin on them.
A shadowy figure appeared at the entrance of her little corner, enough to send her heart pounding again. Unlike the god, she hadn’t the luxury of immediate recognition and huddled closer into the corner, her calmed pulse returning to racing within a matter of moments. She sat stock still, thinking to herself that if she didn’t move, perhaps whoever it was wouldn’t see her. Whoever it was wore a cloak, which only added to the sinister nature of the subject, and that was enough to send Eden’s mind in at least a million horrible directions as she imagined what her death at the hands of this person would be. Quick and painless? Or slow and torturous? She bit her lip until it went white, her arms tightening around her legs as she tensed up further while the stranger approached. She considered telling him (as by the shape of the silhouette, she guessed that it was a male) to back up, to stay away, or else something horrible would happen. Maybe tell him that she had a deadly disease that was highly contagious? She opened her mouth to speak, but not a sound would come out.
When the stranger spoke, she immediately felt a sense of calm envelope her as she realized that her fear was for nothing. There was no one in the world that she was safer around than with Desino. She leapt up from her niche and wrapped her arms around him, burying her face in his shoulder as she did, happy for the solidness that the god provided. There was no one, save for her parents, whom she trusted more completely than she did him. She pulled away, her jaw setting stubbornly as she answered his question. ”No, I was simply taking a walk,” she insisted, but then thought better of the lie. He would find her out, no doubt. She was hardly a good liar. ”Maybe a little bit,” she amended, ”But only a little bit! I’m going to find my way back now. I was just taking a rest before returning home, you see.” Not the complete truth, but certainly not an outright lie either. Her little situation was mildly embarrassing- most women her age would be able to find their way around their home city. Then again, most women her age would be able to walk for more than thirty minutes without becoming absolutely exhausted.

Desino brushed the back of his hand over his forehead. This place was really starting to get to him already. All of the dead or dying calling out to him was always stronger when his body felt tired. It was much easier for him to stay away from the world’s surface whether that be in the clouds with Elejen or under the ground in the hidden, twisting tunnels forged by himself. In his younger days when there had been no worries of large entities like Elejen and himself and when his body hadn’t been so used up. But he brushed the feeling away and drew in a deep breath, casting his stare back down at Eden.
For a moment the young woman looked like she was afraid of who had stopped before her. But things seemed to ease up just as quickly and before he knew it she had jumped up to her feet and flung her arms around him. Desino stood almost perfectly still as she gave him the hug. Even if he may have liked it showing it was not something that he was very good at doing. His face wasn’t even so good at showing how he was feeling most of the time and the most that he could do at the moment was raise a single brow up as he tilted his chin down to stare at the top of her head. When she pulled away he kept the brow up and tilted his head, almost looking as though he was getting lost in all of this conversation between the two of them. But then he simply shrugged one of his shoulders.
Suddenly a tiny grin showed on his lips. “Is it possible to only be a little bit lost?” he asked her, slight amusement apparent in his voice. “You should try to be more careful, Eden. You know how dangerous this city can be.” His face changed to a more serious one now as he stared down at her. “You need to be careful.”
Eden was a rather fragile girl and she always had been born. But that wasn’t the entire worry that he had for her. Eden had become an important person in his mundane existence. She was always an escape from all of the usual things that he had to put up with in this world. Sometimes she even managed to make him forget that he was responsible for death. That was an amazing accomplishment on her part. Sometimes he swore that he could actually be a human. Of course, that silly idea usually shattered in a few moments when he realized that he was the one needing to protect her to keep her in this world.
The god placed his hand on the girl’s waist and perked his brows up at her. “Would you like me to lead you back now?” he asked her very matter-of-factly. “Or would you rather try and find your way back on your own, miss Eden, and have both your parents and I worrying about you for the rest of the day?”

The lack of emotion that Desino displayed had never been an issue for Eden. The young girl wore her heart on her sleeve and, thus, displayed more than enough feeling to make up for it most of the time. She had not once worried about whether or not her fondness for the god was reciprocated, had not thought for a second that he didn’t care at all. After all, despite the lack of expression, the fact that he showed up and watched out for her counted for something, right? It wasn’t as though he did that for every individual, although she could be wrong. She wasn’t the type of girl who thought too hard about such issues and just assumed the best rather than overanalyzing a situation looking for the worst.
Where some might have taken the cock of the head, the tilt of his brow an indication that they ought to back off, Eden didn’t. Maybe it was bad, this lack of fear, especially when faced with one in control of death, but there were very few things that fazed Eden. That was probably why she found herself in less than favorable situations, such as her current one, from time to time. She tilted her head up, a small pout forming across her lips as he spoke. She felt as though she was being parented, and that simply would not do. ”I’m an adult,” she replied stubbornly, ”I don’t see any reason why I shouldn’t be able to wander as I please and I am always very careful.” She was very insistent about the last little bit, despite the fact that it was a blatant lie. She wasn’t entirely sure why she was so upset by the fact that she felt as though Desino was parenting her, although it might have had something to do with the fact that she didn’t want him to look at her as though she was a helpless child. She wasn’t entirely sure what she wanted from him, but while the protection was certainly convenient given the situations she often found herself in, she was finding more and more, as she grew older, that it wasn’t really enough, if that made sense. It was an issue that she had difficulty bringing up, as she wasn’t entirely sure how to vocalize it, fearing that if she said it the wrong way, he might entirely disappear and never come back until she was on her deathbed. She had no doubt that gods were quite good at the whole disappearing thing, although that had, fortunately, never been an issue thus far with Desino.
Eden pursed her lips, mild frustration evident on her face at the very mention of ‘worrying’. The frustration eased away as thought entered her expression and she cocked her head to the side, her brows knitting together. This would be the perfect opportunity to prove that she was capable of fending for herself, finding her way back just to spite him, and yet…”I am perfectly capable of finding my way back,” she replied flippantly, ”But I certainly wouldn’t mind your company, if you have the time.”

Sometimes it was really difficult seeing Eden as an adult. Everything about her at first glance seemed so youthful and childlike. She was bubbly despite her obvious disabilities. It was almost ridiculous that she could have a personality like this when she had been born with a poor immune system and was constantly followed around by death (not for the reasons one may assume but he wasn’t exactly the most cheerful of creatures to be looming around). It wasn’t something that he would want changed about her or anything. No, it was simply some very surprising characteristics that she had somehow managed to develop through her very sheltered childhood. In his time Desino had known and seen many different kinds of personalities and most that were born from situations like her own did not turn out so excitable or curious and happy. And that aura was quite contagious.
Desino finally offered the girl a grin as she tried to plead her case. It was true, she was an adult. She was already in her early twenties, plenty old enough to make her own choices and even take care of herself. He supposed that was all true, it was just difficult convincing himself that she would be alright on her own. He knew the horrors of mankind and that often made him have something like extra worry. He was constantly finding himself swept away in negative thoughts rather than confident ones. Maybe it was time he start to try harder with having more faith in her.
“Careful?” he questioned her, keeping his grin on. “Do you call it careful to rest in a dark place like this?” Actually, he was pretty sure that she would be fine where she had rested as it was out of the way and there was nobody creeping in the darkness around them. But he still decided that it would be okay to give her a hard time. Desino took a few steps forward, placing a hand on her upper back. He stepped out from the alleyway and back into the busy and constant shuffle of people. He nodded out toward them, still keeping his eyes on Eden. “Well, my confident friend, why don’t you show me the way back to your home then?”

There was little about Desino that Eden didn’t adore, although she never said as much outright. She liked his somber personality because it made it all the more rewarding to coax a smile out of him and, while it could be bothersome at times, she liked that he cared enough to follow her and keep her out of harm’s way. Then again, he might have had some vested interest in her- he had kept her alive once so it was in his best interest to keep her alive, otherwise his initial effort might as well have been for nothing. On the whole, Eden had never really questioned his presence in her life, although she occasionally questioned the nature of it. When she was younger, she had almost seen him as a second paternal figure, but as she aged, she realized that her feelings for him had grown into something that she could not quite place, not having dealt with them before. She was a pretty girl, despite her frailty, and had been told as much by several of the boys in the city whom she associated with. She had never been interested, however, and had never pursued anything with them. She didn’t see the point- her heart was elsewhere, whether she realized it or not. Not knowing exactly what it was she felt, she could not vocalize it.
Eden’s brow scrunched at his question, followed quickly by a thoughtful look. ”Well, it’s far more careful than allowing myself to collapse out among the crowds,” she replied, ”I would be trampled to death!” It was easy for Eden to jest about such things- she had no fear of death. Maybe it was dangerous, to associate so closely with one who could take her out of this world, but she had never thought particularly hard about it. To her, Desino was hardly the god of death. She was not entirely sure what he was to her, to be honest. Friend didn’t seem the correct term, nor did protector, even though he certainly acted the part.
Eden considered for a moment, as she did, reaching behind her to remove his hand from her back and take it in her own, twining her fingers innocently through his, turning to look up at him sweetly, ”Since you worry so much for my safety, perhaps its best if you lead the way.”

A knowing grin passed over Desino’s face as she seemingly caved into his presence. He would have been more than happy to allow her to lead the way, as that would have been convincing enough for her to know that she didn’t exactly know these streets as well as she thought that she did. But, at the same time, he wasn’t going to let her feel silly and lost if she didn’t want to. He just happened to care that much about her feelings. So when she told him to lead the way, he didn’t mind that one bit. It was much easier for a god to navigate through this madness anyways, he supposed.
So Desino stepped further out into the bustling crowd of people and held his hand out for her to take it, perfectly confident that she would not deny him. Being completely out of the shadow of the close buildings now he felt the sunshine beat down against the back of his clothing, warming him up very quickly. So he lifted his hand and dropped the hood of his cloak from his head revealing dark brown hair and the lightly tanned skin of his face. It was surprise that he was naturally a darker shade, considering all of them he usually spent going back and forth to the underground. One would think that his skin would match the coloring of a skeleton.
The people around him all seemed to be in such a rush, some giving him strange looks as they hurried by and wondered how he could simply be standing rather than walking. It wasn’t hard for him to ignore them. He had a duty to fulfill and that was getting this human girl back into familiar territory. You would think she would have learned to just take her time by now and take her exploring one step at a time. No, Eden was the type who liked to dive right into things, wasn’t’ she? He should have never expected anything less from a personality like hers.
“Straight home then?”

Wandering had always been a favorite pastime of Eden’s and she had never quite understood why it seemed to concern Desino that something might happen to her. True, she wasn’t particularly careful, but she had a naïve faith in people. She honestly thought that regardless of what happened, there would be someone there to catch her if she fell, even if it wasn’t Desino. She had this innate faith in human kind that had yet to be shaken. Although no one had come to her aid in her recent confusion in the streets, she didn’t even think twice about it. And then, it always came back to the fact that even if no one were there, Desino would find her…right? Maybe it was naïve of her to think that he cared, at least a little bit, but she did and she completely trusted that because he cared, he would make sure she stayed out of harm’s way. Of course, on that note, there was a touch of conflict, because while she wanted to be kept safe, she tread a fine line between being looked out for and being parented. At times, she worried that he felt like a father, and she did not look at him as a paternal figure at all. Maybe at one point she had, but that point was long gone.
As they pushed out into the crowds, Eden was shoved against Desino by the rush of people. She pulled herself away, just the slightest touch of uncertainty entering her eyes. She looked up at him. Straight home? ”If you absolutely insist,” she replied with a sigh, almost like a petulant child. On the one hand, she did want the comfort of knowing she was safe and sound with her parents but on the other, there was so much more to see. She hated the fact that everything had to be cut short by the fact that she wasn’t nearly so hardy as your average twenty-one years old- she was quite frail, breakable-looking. She was always being told, at least by her parents, everything that she shouldn’t be doing. She could tell that Desino wanted to do the same, but he showed more restraint than her family did, something that she appreciated immensely.

When the crowd pushed Eden into him Desino found that he had hardly taken notice of it and wouldn’t have if it wasn’t for the look that he saw in her eyes. He in turn gave her a peculiar look but turned his eyes up away from her a moment later to survey the crowd for a moment and then determine the direction that would get her home. That did not take him much time at all and soon enough he was ready to get on his way. He only managed to take a single step though before Eden got his attention once again. “Well,” he started softly and almost with a voice that seemed uninterested. “I don’t absolutely insist on it right away. If you would much rather go exploring then don’t let me stop you from doing so, Eden.”
It really hadn’t occurred to him that perhaps she would rather take a longer route or see something new. Part of him had just assumed that she had gotten in all of the exploring that she needed in one day and that was why he had found her resting in an alleyway. But maybe he thought wrong, and he would not be one to deny that maybe he did. It happened from time to time and he was willing to be flexible with the time that he had. If she wanted to do something other than go home then he would be more than happy to escort her to another location so long as either he or someone else stayed with her in case she needed the help getting back to her home. Those would be his only conditions on her going out anymore today… she could be independent when her body was up to being more independent (which obviously was not right now).
The god kept a hold on her hand and stretched his neck out to look over the crowd. He glanced only momentarily in the direction that he was about to take her toward her home and then looked back toward the busy market. He turned in the direction of the market place.
“What is it that you would like to see?” he asked her casually as he walked through the crowd. He didn’t bother to move out of the way of anyone. They seemed to be doing a good job of moving out of the way for him. “Will you be alright with walking right now or shall I let you rest?”

Desino had always seemed very detached and it was extremely difficult for Eden to read him. She attributed it to the fact that he wasn’t exactly human, at least, when she took the time to think about it. In all honesty, it had never been a hugely important fact for her. As far as she was concerned, he was Desino and that was that. None of this god of death stuff.
Eden visibly drooped when he first started talking- he didn’t sound particularly eager to spend a little bit of extra time with her, which was a touch disheartening for the young woman. It wasn’t so much that she desperately wanted to continue exploring as she didn’t want him to run off to whatever godly duties he had quite yet. She just wasn’t entirely sure how to voice this. It was extremely difficult for her to make it clear that she appreciated his company almost more than she appreciated his protection. Her eyes brightened up exceptionally as he spoke, although she paused for a moment. Free to do so? Did that mean that he was going to go somewhere? Just leave her to her own devices? Well, that was no good either. Her brow furrowed exponentially for a few moments, but quickly smoothed out once she realized that he wasn’t going anywhere just yet- he hadn’t relinquished his grasp on her arm.
When they turned towards the marketplace, Eden didn’t have the slightest idea what they were doing. Her sense of direction was so far gone that, for all she knew, he could still be dragging her home, which was the worst possible scenario. She wasn’t ready to go home just yet. She bit down on her lower lip, fully prepared to dig her heels in if it looked as though he was dropping her off with her parents. As they walked, she hardly noticed the way people dispersed when they saw Desino, she was so intent on mustering up the courage to tell him no, she wasn’t going home just yet.
Eden’s fears were assuaged when he spoke and she perked up a good deal. ”Well,” she started out tentatively, tightening her grasp on his hand. ”I don’t even know what there is- how about you surprise me?” She shook her head vehemently, however, when he suggested rest. ”I just got finished resting,” she insisted, ”If I feel tired, you’ll be the first to know. I’ll make you carry me or something.”

When her mood brightened up it also helped with making Desino feel a little less rigid. He wasn’t ever really nervous or unsure about himself he was just usually very limited to showing any kind of emotions. It had come with the job though. When people feared him it had only taken him a short while to become more withdrawn and relaxed. Could you imagine being close to death and seeing some bouncing, bubbly man wanting to take your hand and assuring you the leaving your family and everything you knew would be just fine? It just did not seem like a comforting thing when it came to something as delicate as death. It was when people were frail and tired so he did his very best to respect that. His sister was never so courteous but that was why he was who he was. Someone had to balance out her insanity. And thankfully the cheery little spirit of Eden was around to keep him company when he needed and was sure to keep him sane and with purpose other than death. It was a little bit of sunshine in his constant cloudy lifestyle. She was lucky. One of the few who had no fear of death. That was really how it should have been too.
“You’re parents don’t even take you out?” he questioned, looking down at her with some obvious surprise tracing his face. He wasn’t like Elejen. He wasn’t constantly watching the living. “I suppose I will have to be the one to change that now. It’s no wonder you have absolutely no sense of direction.” He shook his head, in all seriousness, as he looked back up to walk through the crowd.
The marketplace was filled with all kinds of sights. There were stalls filled to the brim with goods from food to fine jewelry. Some people even herded little circles of livestock through, trying to auction them off for profit. Desino was not too sure what would catch Eden’s eye but he was rather eager to see where she would hurry off too. Her curiosity was a marvelous thing as he rarely had any and didn’t always find the smallest things as marvelous as she did.
“Is this enough to look at?” He then furrowed his brow. The marketplace may have been filled with many surprises but there was always a lot of noise and a lot of movement. He was suddenly a bit concerned about her wellbeing over here. “Perhaps somewhere more quiet?” he offered her, unsure of where any place would be quiet around this city. “Unless…. Something strikes your fancy.”

Eden never really gave much thought to what Desino’s job was as the god of death. She knew he dealt with dying on a daily basis but had never really considered what he did, ushering people along to whatever lay beyond, assuming anything was there. Death just was not a subject she dwelt upon most of the time- despite her infirmities, it seemed like a long ways away for her, even though she associated with what could be considered the personification of death on a regular basis. It was just difficult for her to look at him as something to be frightened of. He was always kind to her, had never said a harsh word. Sure, he could occasionally be a touch over protective but she supposed that was something he couldn’t help, dealing with people dying on a daily basis.
Eden wrinkled her nose at his question. ”Of course not, they worry that something’s going to happen to me,” Eden replied, ”According to them, I’ll catch some disease or faint in the middle of the streets from sheer exhaustion.” She followed this with a roll of her eyes. Her parents were probably correct in their assessment of the situation. Eden was more susceptible to most illness and when she did find herself sick it hit her harder than most. A common cold could put her completely out of commission for a week. The flu? It threw her at death’s door. Thankfully, she had only had the flu once, when she was very young, and her parents became twice as careful after that. For a time, she was contained in the house with no outside visitors. It was pure torture for Eden, who told them that she would rather be sick than isolated.
Eden’s eyes danced with excitement as they moved through the marketplace, her attention not so much on the goods as much as the sheer number of people around her. She had to contain herself from jumping up and pointing at the man with a hunchback, realizing that it probably would not be the most socially correct thing to do. ”Oh, yes,” she replied absently to Desino’s question, shaking her head vehemently at his suggestion that they find someplace quiet to explore.
Unfortunately, not long after she felt her breath starting to catch and her heart’s pounding was like a drum in her ears. She shoved the feeling down, not wanting her day to be cut short by the fact that she couldn’t walk a mile without being put out of commission. Would Desino notice? She would keep her mouth shut- as far as she was concerned, she was perfectly all right. Still, her legs were starting to ache and every breath was starting to become painful, not enough that she would complain, but enough that she noticed. She was determined, however, that this would not stop her from having a good day and, thus, tried her utmost to ignore it.

Desino couldn’t help but chuckle at her answer to his question. Even if she wasn’t completely aware of it, it was a good thing that her parents were so protective of her. He knew of many who would throw their children away in an instant whether it was because they were sick or they had done something that had brought shame onto their families. Desino found things like that to be rather silly, knowing fully that if he ever had any kind of offspring that he would never let any kind of harm come of them. He even did if occasionally for Elejen’s creations. She, on the other hand, didn’t mind putting her offspring at risk or getting him in trouble. And she didn’t mind toying with her creations either. Desino couldn’t’ wrap his head around any of that. Sometimes he was sure that the two of them really should have been in opposite positions. He could have protected life and she could have had her fun taking it all away. Though, now that he thought about it, a person like his sister could probably get a little carried away with having the opportunity to take life rather than give it. Maybe they really were in their proper spots.
“Are you not thankful for the concern your parents have for you?” he asked her, covering up another amused chuckle. He moved his dark brown eyes to stare down at her from their corners. “Perhaps you just need a little more room to spread your wings.”
He knew just as well as her parents that she could not stay in one place forever. It was actually possible for a person to that but such a curious soul should be given more free reign in her world. Desino wasn’t sure how much he wanted to actually admit that to the young woman walking along the crowded streets with him though. Part of him wanted her to stay close or in this city for all her life simply so she would be safe in its walls and he would always know where he could find her. But then there was another part of Desino that was telling him otherwise. It was urging him to find a way for her to break free from all of this and let her go on the adventures that she may have dreamed of going on. Unfortunately, with a body as frail as hers and with powers that only really, truly dealt with death… he could not offer any way to heal her. Only Elejen had such powers and she rarely granted them. It made variety in this world, he supposed. But he longed for this one person… this one girl to have everything she could have possibly dreamed of. For her, he wanted her to have it all and then some. She deserved it like no other.
His assumption had been correct about all of the noises and activity. Eden did not seem to have a large interest in staying around all of it. Desino was used to solitude himself so he didn’t exactly mind her choice. Every so often it was nice to see such lively activity but he supposed that Eden was rather tired by now, even if she doubted it.
“Then where shall we go?” he asked her while taking her hand in his. He offered her a grin. “Do you enjoy animals?”

Eden immediately felt like a petulant child at Desino’s question. Of course she was thankful for the fact that her parents obviously loved her enough to look out for her well-being but sometimes it was downright stifling. There was so much to be seen beyond the confines of their little street that it seemed silly that she ought to be stuck there for an eternity. She knew that if they could, if they thought that she would survive, they would keep her in their house, locked away from the rest of the world. Eden was fairly certain that if she was put in that position, she would slowly wither away into nothingness. She needed interaction, needed to be out and about. It seemed unfair that one with her nature was given so many limitations. She was only glad that Desino seemed to be able, at least for the moment, be able to look past that and take her out walking. She was incredibly appreciative of it, more so than she thought she would ever be able to voice. It meant he had at least a little bit of confidence in her, recognized the fact that she deserved to be let off the leash from time to time. Granted, he was still there, watching over her, but she found that she didn’t mind that. His company was more than welcome in just about any situation.
”I love my parents but sometimes…they just don’t understand, I guess, I don’t know…” she lifted her eyes up, meeting his gaze, a light smile twitching across the corners of her lips as she realized that he was amused by her reaction, that he wasn’t chastising her for being less than thankful for her parents’ protection. After all- she wasn’t a child. She didn’t need to be disciplined or given talking to’s. She needed to be given a chance to learn about some things on her own.
While exploration was always a dear wish of hers, there were other things she wanted. From time to time, she wanted romance. Her friends, the other girls in the city, talked about their sweethearts, the boys that they would pull into alleys to meet up with. Eden knew she was pretty, knew that there were boys who would be more than willing to meet up with her in the dead of night beneath the moonlight. It was simply that, well, none of them really met her standards and, if she was honest with herself, none of them really measured up to Desino…who seemed to be at least relatively off limits. Not that she would ever broach the subject with him.
”I don’t mind where we go,” Eden replied absently, then turned towards him with a grin, squeezing his hand, ”But of course I like animals” She rolled her eyes as though it ought to have been obvious and then, in an act of spontaneity, bounced up on her tiptoes and kissed him lightly on the cheek. ”Thank you for not making me go home!”
