She was never going to go back to her original home. Masq was destroyed, and although she wanted to go back to see if there were any trinkets left that belonged to her, she was sure they were either destroyed or it would stir up dark memories of that fateful day. The alone seemed to make her depressed. Quickly she shook the thought from her mind, trying to cheer herself up. Her new home was much better. She knew that they were remains of Narro villages, but most of them were empty and abandoned, a perfect place for an Illian to live without anyone knowing. It had been awhile now she took up residence here, and so far it was working great to advantage.
The fog kept her home hidden, not to mention when she ventured out it also hid her. Sure she could make herself somewhat invisible, but not totally clear. The fog was a great disguise and easily hid her when she wanted to disappear. The high village in the trees kept her safe from any dangers below. It was the perfect place really. She knew it was the one place that no one would decide to bother her or find her for that matter. She was usually careful when venturing down from the village, but then again she couldn’t stop herself from occasionally having fun with anyone who came through.
Yes, Sirena couldn’t help but play a few games and taunt anyone who came by. Although, she knew which ones she could get away with playing a trick on and which to avoid when necessary. Today however, when she ventured down from the tree top there was no one around for her to bother. Rather, she wanted to take a dip into the lake that wasn’t too far away. She took a lift down to the floor, the fog growing slightly thicker as she get closer to the bottom. When she reached the ground, she quickly sent the lift up to where no one would see it, tucking away the ropes so no one would be able to venture back up into the village while she was down here. She didn’t want to risk someone finding her secret home.
Lightly Sirena stepped as she made her way to the lake, the anticipation of water exciting her. It had been a while since she last took a dip, but she was feeling dehydrated and her skin dry. This swim was not only for pleasure but needed. Just thinking about the water made her swoon. As she kept walking, she could sense the water getting closer. Her skin tingled, sensing the water. Eventually she came the lake, the water pristine as it sat before her undisturbed. All over her body was tingling, the need to get in the water was fast as possible overwhelming her. Through the fog she spotted a large rock, quickly running over to it.
Quickly she removed her articles of clothing and set them on the rock. Unable to wait any longer she dove into the water from the rock. Her body became alive, the tingling seeming to touch her core. The cool water was refreshing, and rather than surface right away she remained submerged in the water. She swam to the bottom of the lake, find the floor mostly empty. It was so nice to be back in the water. Sirena could feel her body returning to normal, absorbing the water around her. She took a deep breath under water, feeling it filter through her body and hydrate her lungs. She wanted to stay down here forever, but she had a safe home to go to.
Until though she felt like returning home, she remained in the lake. She was too deep for any other creature to come and get her unless they too were an Illian, but Sirena had yet to run into another Illian. It was a rare thing to find one like her really, but she knew that they were out there somewhere. For now however, she was going to enjoy every minute of her swim. She wasn’t sure when she would get to do this again.

WE BREAK OUR ENEMIES WITH FEAR AND WE'VE SEEN HOW THE TEARS COME AROUNDwe built our confidenceON WASTELAND, WE'VE SEEN HOW THE WALL COMES DOWN, LIFE BURNS It seemed like days that he had been limping and dragging himself onward, away from the tropics of Elakoh. His desperation to escape that world was completely evident in both his mind and his sheer will to escape the place. As soon as he was on the solid ground of Esune again he started his rushed journey back to the land of his origin. He was sick of the hot sun and the warm rainfall. He was weary of living in the city so far up above the ground, literally making it like a cage for a being without wings to travel to and from it. It was time that he left it all behind him and moved forward though, what had mattered was that he had escaped the grasps of those winged demons and was now on his way back home. The only problem was that he had been completely disoriented when he was actually on the ground. He didn’t recognize anything he saw and hadn’t the slightest idea of where to go. Eventually though he had pressed on and on until he found the sea where he managed to sneak onto a passenger ship headed back to the world that was dominated by his kind; the human world. Surprisingly, it would be a breath of fresh air compared to the drifting hell he had just escaped from.
It wasn’t rare seeing people looking a bit beaten or run down. At least, he had thought so. But that may have been because he had not been outside in the real world for so long. He had been treated like an animal, forced to fight everyday for his life and the entertainment of a race who declared themselves higher than he. So being out and about and getting asked questions about his battered condition was strange to him. He hardly noticed it really, except for the limp that he had developed after that fall when his poorly made parachute had been ensnared in the grasps of some thorny plant. Other than that though he felt somewhat… alright. Somewhat? Who was he kidding? All of the pain seemed to wash away when he thought of his new freedom. It was a momentary joy and he was going to soak it in as much as he could.
Weeks had gone by before he finally had managed to find his way to the city of the humans. He never stepped foot in it though. He wouldn’t know what to do with himself and was afraid he may have forgotten some of the basic social skills that most humans had. It had been many years since he had lived with any of their kind. He tried to muster up the courage to walk in there without fear but in the end… he decided there was no reason to be there. His only interest had been clothing and perhaps a warm meal. But he was able to do many things on his own... he could surely do those things.
Instead of the city Cassius turned to the cover of the forest. He decided it would be a good place to rest and perhaps find something to eat. Though he highly doubted that he would be able to catch anything with his aching legs. Maybe just a wash in whatever water he could find and a cool drink would do. Even the simple thought of that made him somewhat happy.
Traveling through the forest seemed longer than the entire journey put together. Not in a horrid way though… it made him feel somewhat excited and thrilled to be back in his own native land. However, all of that was pushed aside when he finally found some crystal clear water gleaming at him. In an instant he was on his knees before the lake and placing his hands into the water, collecting it in his palms to both drink and wash some dirt from his arms and face.
It felt so completely amazing to be free again.

The water was so relaxing. If anything she felt more at home here in the water than outside and up in the trees. The water was where she lived. Occasionally she thought about maybe jumping aboard a ship and sailing on the water. She could have been around her home at all times and she could easily help anyone drowning in water. After all, she had done it once before. Although she never met the guy she saved she was sure that he probably grateful to still be alive. It had been a while since she had outside contact with anyone, but it was hard for her to trust people. After the attack on her home, she made sure that whoever wanted to be close with her would earn that trust.
There was a sudden splash towards the surface that disturbed Sirena from her mind. Quickly she looked up through the water, the figure too far for her to see. Moving form the bottom of the lake she swam a little closer to the surface, the image of the figure becoming clearer. Her blue eyes could see much clearer than the average human when under water. It wasn’t blurry. No, it was clear as if she were standing outside the lake. Yet even under the water the figure still wasn’t clear to her. He looked familiar, but she couldn’t place it. Longer she stared at him, analyzing his face as he rid himself of the dirt he was covered in. Was that? No... it couldn’t be...
She swam away from him back to the rock she knew her clothes were resting on. Slowly and quietly Sirena slipped out of the water, doing her best to stay quiet. She dripped water as she gathered her clothes and slipped into a deeper patch of fog to quickly redress herself. Wringing her hair out she quickly braided it and tied the end before stepping out of the fog to look for the boy again. His image was burned in her mind now. Why did he look so familiar to her? Eventually she found him again, not far from where he was originally. Keeping her distance she intently stared at him, examining all his features. Something... Something...
A sharp gasp.
Instantly, like a ton of bricks it hit her. “Cassius!” She suddenly cried out in joy. Her feet moved like the wind as she ran towards him, throwing her arms around his shoulders and tackling him to the ground. “Oh thank Elejen you’re alive!” She sat up, examining his face. How long had it been since she last saw him? Five years. Five long years she hadn’t seen the boy she helped grow up before they’re were attacked. They had taken him, but she was sure that he was either dead or he was never going to come back at all. But here he was, walking around the ground still alive. Sure he looked a little rough but he was okay. Her little brother was okay, well, it was obvious that he wasn’t so little anymore. But that didn’t matter.
After examining his face she hugged him again, this time tighter like he might slip away again. “I’ve missed you so much I was so worried. I didn’t know what happened to you after the attack. I looked for you but you were nowhere to be found. I’m so glad you’re okay.” She pulled back again, a silly smile on her face, tears of job falling down her face. “Oh! I didn’t even see if you were injured are you okay? Do you need a place to stay? You can stay with me! Trust me it’s safe and no one will find us. Are you hungry?”
She was asking so many questions, quickly realizing this and pulling back. “Sorry. I’ve just missed you.”

WE BREAK OUR ENEMIES WITH FEAR AND WE'VE SEEN HOW THE TEARS COME AROUNDwe built our confidenceON WASTELAND, WE'VE SEEN HOW THE WALL COMES DOWN, LIFE BURNS The dirt seemed to pour from his features; mucky water dribbled down his chin and tainted the cool, clear waters of the quiet lake. Cassius paid it no mind, only watching the water’s surface to see his reflection becoming clearer. It wasn’t long before his face one again was a plain and simple peach color with a few scratches scabbing over from his rather reckless adventure all the way back to this place. It almost made him smile seeing that he was still whole and his eyes were still the same teal that they had always been. His lips, though cracked from the perilous of his journey, were still his lips and curled up into the same grin that he could remember having all those years ago when he peered into the water to watch his adoptive family take refuge under its surface. And his hair despite the tossed mess that it was in was still the same wheat blond that it always had been, though it had grown a bit in length now. Everything was still in place on the outside. Now he just needed to make sure that he was still himself on the inside as well. That would be a bit more difficult to find out than appearance, he was sure.
He sat on his knees at the water’s edge and still watched his faded image on the surface. His back was bent forward slightly with weariness giving him the impression of someone who was either old or lazy. But he pressed his concentration elsewhere, looking to his hair again. He lifted both of his hands from his knees and raked his fingers through the dirty blond mess on his head. He grimaced whenever his fingers got caught in a tangle and he had to yank them through it. But, in the end, he decided the work was worth as he did look a bit more presentable than he first had when he looked at him. Now his wild hair was brushed back the best it could be only sticking it in small tuffs near his ears or in waves near his brow. It was better than it had been and that was what made it alright in by his standards.
Next came figuring out where to go from here. With a cool drink of water and a cleaned face he felt even more determination to bulldoze through this mess and seek revenge on those bastards who had torn him and his adoptive family’s home to shreds. But, unfortunately, he wasn’t sure where to start and his stomach still had that pinching feeling of hunger. So that informed him that he was really going to have to continue taking on this mission one step at a time. And now that he had finding water marked off he could move onto the source of food and shelter until his body recuperated from the fall and battles he had gone through.
Before Cassius could even stand fully to his feet, he was startled by the sound of his own name being shouted over at him. His first thought provoked fear and he thought that he had been found by the aeries or something. But when his eyes found the source he realized that it was just a blond woman running in his direction with her arms out for him. At first… he had no idea what was going on. But he didn’t have a lot of time to think about that. The woman was on him in an instant and he had fallen back onto the ground, completely taken off guard, his face looking somewhat horrified by the sudden encounter.
She sat up and he pushed his upper body up with the help of his elbows. From there he attempted to scoot back and away from her a little while his brows furrowed and his nose wrinkled at her. He was still startled and very much confused from the sudden attention that he was getting and his brain wasn’t quite in the normal mode of thinking because of the shock. She was alright though and just continued on with talking.
From what she was saying it seemed like she actually knew who he was. And as he watched her speak (with his mouth dropped and his face looking confused and disgusted all at once) it finally dawned on him just who this woman actually was. Now it was his turn to be completely impressed that she was still alive. The confused look swept away leaving a look of utter amazement. He almost didn’t hear the flurry of questions that were tossed his way. Instead he burst back forward onto his knees and attacked himself to her by throwing his arms around her shoulders and pulling her into him as if she were some kind of doll.
“You made it out!” he practically shouted, not even trying to control his voice because of the excitement. “I wasn’t sure if you had gotten away from them. Those damn bastards, I swear I’ll kill every one of them if I have to!” Suddenly he froze and tightened his grip on her. “What about the others? Did any of them make it? Are they- did she… what happened?”

Sirena didn’t mean to overwhelm the boy she helped raise, but it was so good to see him again! She wasn’t sure what had happened to him or where he went. Everything happened so fast that day... Even in her mind was slightly blurred. She just remembered being separated from Cassius, praying to Elejen that he would be okay and that one day she might get to see him. And now, here they were. He was alive and well, or so it had appeared to her. In general, Sirena was just glad that he was alive and in her presence.
She jumped as he hugged her, giggling for a moment at her overreaction. He held her tighter than she realized. He seemed much larger in size than she last saw him. He seemed to have bulked up, his arms full of muscles that wrapped her shoulders. But, she noticed something else. He was riddled with scars, all over his arms. What happened to him? It didn’t matter. Quickly she returned the hug, wrapping around him as tightly as she could. “Yeah, I made it out.” She mentioned to him. For some reason, it was still unclear in her mind how she got out of there. Either way, it was a miracle.
When he spoke again she hushed him. “Hey, it’s okay. You’re safe, I’m safe. It’ll be okay, I promise. Shh. You don’t have to worry about them anymore.” However, Sirena wasn’t sure what to think. Cassius was still young when their home was attacked, so she could slightly understand how he might be angry. Here comes some foreign group of creatures to destroy everything he had ever known and grown up with. Sirena was angry as well, but not to the extent Cassius was. Something must have happened to him that she didn’t experience. Just what happened to him within the last five years.
Again she heard Cassius speak, this time a question. As her mind thought back, she felt her heart sink. Again she tightened around him, this time now stroking the back of his neck and hair. “I don’t know. It all happened so fast. I think so made it out, but I don’t know who all did. And, as for her...” At this Sirena trailed off, tears forming in her eyes, but she wasn’t about to show Cassius she was upset. Taking a deep breath, she did her best to keep her voice from cracking, “I don’t know. There was so much that went wrong that day. I wish I had answers for you.”
For a moment she remained wrapped around him, pulling him away. She reached up to stroke his face. “Cassius, what happened to you after the attack? I lost sight of you and then... You were gone. I was so worried about you.” Oh she missed her little brother so much. Okay, so he wasn’t really her brother, but after raising him it certainly felt like it. Although now, with him so grown up she felt like she was the little one, and he was the older sibling. She knew in her mind though, she would always be the older one.

WE BREAK OUR ENEMIES WITH FEAR AND WE'VE SEEN HOW THE TEARS COME AROUNDwe built our confidenceON WASTELAND, WE'VE SEEN HOW THE WALL COMES DOWN, LIFE BURNS Everyone was dead. That would was one of his worst fears, it was the last thing that he would ever want to hear her say. Seeing her here today though did managed to give him some hope that there still were some of them left from the small village that he had lived in. it meant that there was still a chance that everyone was alive… even the female who had taken him in and treated him as her son all of those years ago. There was still hope that she could be out there and not dead. If he could find them all he was sure that he would be able to rest peacefully and happily.
As she hung onto him and ran her hand along his hair, Cassius heard words that he wanted and did not want to hear all at the same time. Everything had been complete chaos that day. Everything had been a confusing mess and seemed to just spiral out of anyone’s control. Even the humani seemed to be a in a constant frenzy of confusion and had simply been lashing out at anything that had crossed their path. It was heartbreaking to know that they didn’t know the whereabouts of anyone else. And Cassius wasn’t sure if returning to the village would do either of them any good since he wasn’t sure if their remains had actually been left there are taken away by the humani to be… he didn’t even want to imagine what they did with the bodies. It was too painful to imagine anyone’s remains being eaten and torn apart. He had already seen much of that in the city of the sky. At least there he hadn’t had to watch the beings that he had come to love be scattered and harmed.
He was afraid to answer her question, afraid of the reaction that it would attain. He didn’t want to tell her that the flying Aeries had snatched him up and flown him into their city. It was far better than being left to die by the humani but it was not a fate that he wanted to discuss with Sirena. He knew that she would not want to hear such things and there was no way that he wanted to relive them in his mind so soon. He had only escaped that place a few weeks ago and he didn’t plan on reminiscing. Cassius was only interested on getting his revenge on those horrid creatures who had separated him from the only thing he had.
He pushed away from her and cupped her chin in his hands. He offered her a small smile. “I was simply lost,” he told her with forced sincerity. It sounded believable enough to him even though he hadn’t exactly been lost. “I couldn’t find my way until now.”
Cassius did not regret telling Sirena this lie and he was sure he never would. It was for the best and he was satisfied with making that last chunk of his life disappear into the shadows of yesterday. It would be easier to simply move on with their lives now.
“Have you been here this whole time? In the forest?”

Sirena wasn’t sure what to tell Cassius. When that awful day happened, all she could think about was getting somewhere safe and protecting those she cared about, but she couldn’t even do that. The only two people she cared about in the whole world had disappeared. She thought that they were both dead, like she was sure Cassius thought she was. That wasn’t the case. They were both here and alive. It was a miracle delivered by Elejen herself. Seeing her brother here gave Sirena hope that maybe their caretaker was still alive. She wasn’t going to give up looking. Cassius had come back, why should she be able to?
Patiently she waited for Cassius to answer her question, almost holding her breath to know just where he had been and/or what he had been doing. He seemed almost hesitant to answer, and when he pulled away she let her blue eyes meet his own green ones. What was he going to say? Sirena could feel her heart pounding in her chest as she waited for him to say something, anything! Finally he answered. Lost? He was lost? It almost didn’t sound right in her mind, but she thought too that maybe there was something much darker lurking that he didn’t want to share. Although she was going to pester him about it, she hoped that maybe later on he would be able to share it with her.
A sigh left her lips, her hands reaching up to lace with his. Well, whatever did happen in the past, it didn’t matter now. Cassius was here and alive. That’s all that matter to Sirena. “Well, I’m glad that you were able to find your way.” A small smile came across her face as well, again letting out another sigh of relief.
“Um, not the whole time.” she confessed to him. “After the event that day, I was lost too. There was so much destruction that I couldn’t recognize the area.” It was true. Everything that she had come to know where she lived and around her home was no longer there. She didn’t know where to go or what to do. It was unclear to her just how long she had been wandering before she came across the abandoned villages of the Narro. It was luck really that she found a second place to live somewhat similar to her former home. The Narro had moved on and left a gem for Sirena to find.
“I wandered for a while,” she spoke again, “I came across the old Narro village here and I’ve been living here ever since. The fog keeps the village hidden and they left their gardens in the trees so there’s plenty of food.” She paused for a moment, suddenly realizing that it might have been a while since Cassius had eaten. Either he wasn’t hungry or starving for something. “Are you hungry? When’s the last time you ate something?” Now that he was here, at least they would be able to care of each other now, or at least she hoped. She wanted nothing more than to start living like her life was before the event. She missed her brother.

WE BREAK OUR ENEMIES WITH FEAR AND WE'VE SEEN HOW THE TEARS COME AROUNDwe built our confidenceON WASTELAND, WE'VE SEEN HOW THE WALL COMES DOWN, LIFE BURNS Cassius drew in a deep breath, swallowing any of the feelings that had been trying to surface while Sirena had been talking. All of the memories of their past were things that he had managed to keep held deep inside of him when he had lived with the aeries. There had been far more things to think about while he had been there and the only goal that he had in mind while there was leaving in order to change things in his future. The past had been nothing but that. It had been the past and even though it had motivated him to go look for his family in the future, he had done his best not to remember the things that really hurt him. So hearing all of this now was more than just a little painful. He knew that he wasn’t the only feeling it too and that was what made things even harder. It was difficult to ignore his pain and Sirena’s. But, somehow, the topic had managed to shift and once again their history was pushed back into the past where they would not have to think about it until later on when they were alone.
When she mentioned an abandoned Narro village, Cassius immediately found himself glancing around for any signs of this abandoned village that she may have been talking about. Even coming up to this lake he hadn’t noticed any signs of a village anywhere, abandoned or not. Then he remembered… the Narro built their villages and cities and homes up in trees, not on the ground. So now Cassius found himself looking up in the tree branches for any signs of the village that she was talking about. All that he could see were tree branches and birds though, nothing more than that. Was it that well hidden? Or maybe it was simply further away from them?
Her questions snapped his attention back toward her immediately. He moved away from her then and pushed himself up off of the ground. He took a few steps back and brushed his hands over his arms. “Hungry? I’m not really sure actually,” he admitted to her with a shrug. But his mind was elsewhere and his eyes were glancing around, taking in his surroundings again. “I’m curious about where you’ve been staying though. If it’d be okay… I haven’t really been anywhere decent in a while you know. A good night’s rest would be nice.”
After all of those days of traveling from Galen, Cassius was really keen to get a rest. He hadn’t even really been thinking about food until she had mentioned it. The only thing that had been on his mind was getting to a place that was somewhat familiar to him and far away from the aeries people. Not to mention, to get himself cleaned after that fall from the city.
“Is it around here somewhere or… further off?” he asked, eyes narrowed curiously. “You just live out here all by yourself now?”

Sirena watched Cassius swallow a deep breath, knowing exactly how he felt. Talking about that horrible day was stirring things in her she hadn’t felt in years. The images were floating around in her head, making her stomach churn and more tears threaten. She knew that no matter what that event would always be in the past now, but it was part of her past along with Cassius. It was something they could try and ignore, but it’s what made them who they were. She wasn’t sure what else had happened to Cassius during their time apart, she only hoped it wasn’t as severe was what happened that awful day. Following Cassius, she took took a deep breath, letting it out slowly but she could feel it shake. She felt somewhat better, but all she wanted to do was hug her brother again and never let go.
But, he was now busy trying to find this village she spoke of. Sirena stifled her giggles, knowing that you couldn’t see the village from the ground. She would show him where she lived and let him stay with her. She wasn’t about to lose him again now that they had found each other. No, they would live together like before. Yeah, she wanted things to go back to the way they once were.
When he moved away she was afraid she might have said something wrong. Quickly she got to her feet as well, although still shorter than him. Carefully she looked at him, analyzing him while he rubbed his arms. Well, if he wasn’t hungry then what was he? He was obviously still confused about where she lived. She was definitely going to show him and make sure that he stayed with her. Oh he wanted sleep? A sigh of relief left her lips at this knowledge, giving him a soft smile. “Of course it’s okay silly! You’re more than welcome. In fact, I insist that you stay with me. To be honest, I’ve been kind of lonely living on my own. It would be nice to have some company.”
Reaching out to his hand, she took it and escorted him to the lift that was hidden behind the trees. Once she was sure he was on the lift, she began to pull it up, finding that it was slightly heavier now with an extra person on the lift with her. Although, she managed to pulled the lift to the top of the trees where the village was finally exposed. “Here we are!” She told him in a bright tone, taking his hand again and pulling him along the village. Although it was quite eerie with the empty homes within the trees, Sirena was used to at this point. She escorted Cassius through the village before entering a rather large tree. “Well this is home.” She told him, releasing his hand and shutting the door behind them.
Stepping further inside. “Um, there’s a place for you to wash the stairs, and then you can get all the rest you need. I’m going to go ahead and starting getting something ready for us to eat. I know you might not be hungry, but I am and I’m hoping after you’re nap you will too. So, what’s mine is yours. Welcome home, Cassius.”
